And the fallout continues! Dakota had no idea the trouble she'd bring down on the entire town with her not so little revelation. The Rush matriarch, Marylee, continues to try and make Dakota's life a living hell while at the same time trying to "cover up" and "explain" why the Senator slept with girls the same age as his daughter - one of those girls was even his daughter's best friend. The Senator's family is still reeling, and the kids are forced to realize their parent's marriage wasn't quite what they had thought all these years. His wife, Payton, seems to be moving in a direction that is a bit unexpected, but I'll have to wait and see if anything plays out with that. Another wrap-up, bridge type of episode. Setting the stage for season two and getting all the players in place for something big to happen.

DISTANT THUNDER by Larissa Ione is the second installment in the multi-authored Mid Season RISING STORM serialized novella series focusing on the men and women of Storm, Texas. DISTANT THUNDER should not be read as a stand alone as it is part of a continuing series where each installment builds upon the previous installment. DISTANT THUNDER focuses on the Rush family -Senator Sebastian Rush, his long-suffering wife Payton, and his powerful and controlling mother-the matriarch of the Rush family-Marylee, and the ensuing disaster following the very public reveal of the Senator’s sexual behavior and the possibility of fathering another child. What ensues are Marylee’s attempts to control the fall-out of her son’s numerous affairs, and place a spin on the media attention such that her son looks the victim in the eyes of the world. While Marylee undertakes to manage everyone involved, the threats against the people of Storm, continue to grow. The reader is pulled into the dysfunctional family dynamics of a powerful, political family- a family controlled by power and wealth, and the drive to remain at the top of the heap. While Marylee scours for damaging information and people from the past, Sebastian places his own spin on the events while his wife and children bear the pain of their husband (and father’s) illicit affairs. Not only have the lives of the Rush family been destroyed, but so too, have the lives of everyone involved. DISTANT THUNDER and Larissa Ione will captivate your attention, and keep you reading on the edge of your seat.

Every story has to have one. A character that is so despicable that you can't wait to see them get what's coming to them. That has been how I have felt about the Senator from the very beginning. He is a selfish manipulative predator that uses his position of power to prey on the weak and impressionable. The problem is that he is not the only one having to deal with the fallout of his actions. I received an ARC of Distant Thunder by Larissa Ione in exchange for an honest review. With every episode I find myself falling back into the pattern of anticipating what new revelation will be waiting around the corner. "I'M LOVING IT."

Marylee Rush is in damage control mode: she’s brought in Oliver Stayton, a crisis manager, who is every bit as unscrupulous as the Rushes. The options are limited and not pretty: more lies are needed to cover up lies after the Great Founders’ Day Disaster. Marylee has found Dakota Alvarez’s Achilles heel; the Rushed might have found a way to shut her up. If possible, Senator Sebastian Rush comes across as even more despicable after his wife Payton discovers something he hid. And when you thought all the Rushes’ ugly secrets might have been exposed, there is yet another huge one that is about to come out – and boy, am I ever dying to know about that one, because it might prove even more explosive than what we have seen so far. Strangely enough, the public debacle is having some positive results on some of the members of the Rush family. Someone utters spontaneous threats at Sebastian, unfortunately there are witnesses at this outburst, that is possibly merely just that, a frustrated utterance, but… And are you thinking what I’m thinking? That Sebastian might be stopped… once and for all? And what is Tate Johnson really up to? And I had thought that most of the excitement was behind us! In fact, it’s just starting; everything that’s happened before almost seem only as the beginning of the Rising Storm series, and isn’t that just great! I still wonder why I like Dakota so much. Mind you, I would not want her as a friend, but her character is so interesting; she’s an accident waiting to happen, and I want to watch! I love how Larissa Ione kept things moving along, and that’s an understatement, because this novella has as much content as a full-length novel. Ms. Ione didn’t linger on recapping, but she picked up most of the story liens and ran along with it; it is amazing. DISTANT THUNDER is one terrific episode, and there is still as much to come as has happened! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
