Daywalker Brynne Kirkland survived a hellish upbringing as a product of a madman's lab. Tough, driven, and devoted to her work in law enforcement, Brynne has never dared to risk opening her heart to anyone--least of all a handsome immortal from a world on the verge of war against hers.

Atlantean warrior Zael left the intrigue of his realm several lifetimes ago, along with the battles he
fought as one of the queen's legion. As a free-spirited loner walking the fringe of two worlds--that of his secretive and powerful people, and the outside world belonging to mankind and the Breed--it was never his intention to return to combat and bloodshed. Nor had he imagined that he might ever be tempted into anything stronger than desire . . . until he meets Brynne.

Thrust together as allies of the Order in the fight against a diabolical enemy, Zael and Brynne embark on a mission that will ultimately force them to decide between duty to their people, and a passion that defies all bounds.

I liked the story line but the ending seemed rushed. What I did not like was the pairing of Zael and Brynne. What an unlikeabe cold breed female. Didn't feel the romance.

I very much looked forward to Brynne and Zael's story since they met in Bound to Darkness. They seemed so passionate even before they gave in to their desires. Zael sees Brynne's horrible past and scars as being why she tries to push him away. He also realizes that after so many years of being nomadic in his travels and lovers, she represents something new that he has never had. He won't give up no matter how much she pushes back and when he sees why she pushes back he acknowledges her fears and proves to her that what he sees when he looks at her is beauty, not monstrous. When they are tasked to go to the Atlantean colony to petition for an alliance, their love and passion are tested. Her insecurities flair, but he proves to her more than once that his attention to her isn't fleeting. He wants her forever. Their love was beautiful and I really liked Zael as a character a lot. Brynne is a strong female lead and her fears and desires to have someone see her for not being the monster Dragos created in his lab creates a beautiful story as Zael sets out to show her that his love is real and permanent. The conflict isn't too complicated in this one, no epic battles and major villains. It has more of an overall conflict that the series is dealing with as a whole; preventing a war and stopping Opus Nostrum from destroying all that they have built in the last 20 years. Once in the colony, the conflict leads to Zael and Brynne becoming even closer and fighting to be together. I enjoyed the story a lot.

I loved this story! Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series is awesome! This paranormal romance is full of action, drama, suspense and romance and is the 14th book in this series. Brynne Kirkland a daywalker of the Breed who is a tough female devoted to her law enforcement career who for years has kept others at an arms length so they would never find out what she has become from being created and raised in a lab by a madman. Zael is an Atlantean warrior who along with many others defected from Atlantis when their queen bent on revenge became a leader they longer wanted to follow. Zael is thrust into a fight that he didn't ask for, but is needed in order to save humans, Breed and his people from a diabolical enemy. As he and Brynne team up they find that they are also fighting an attraction that makes no sense because the Order and the Atlanteans have been at odds for years. Soon their passion defies all of this! I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

4.5 stars for this latest installment in the Midnight Breed series. Lara Adrain once again gives us a book full of nail biting suspense as our favorite paranormal crew fights against the evil that is rising around them. I fell in love with this series the very moment I opened the first book. Defy The Dawn is an amazing journey between two people who have secrets and lines neither want to cross. Lara Adrian gives such life and real emotions to her "make-believe" family that it's always hard to put her books down. And believe me Zael and Brynne's story is no different. Brynne has always kept to herself and I think if I had a secret like hers, I'd be the same way. Holy Hell, Brynne has something running around inside her that makes the things that go bump in the night look not quite so scary. Zael is sweet and lovable. He's also hot as all get out. As all Lara's men are. But he's also a little something more. I loved his determination to make Brynne see things the way he does. And I also loved the fact that he didn't run. Once he decided to let his fascination with her off it's leash, things really heated up. Zael and Brynne work together to help the Breed and the Warriors beat an enemy that just may be a bit harder to defeat than anyone knows. If you love this series as I do, you won't want to miss out on Defy The Dawn. An ARC was provided for an honest review.

I was really looking forward to reading this book as the last Midnight Breed book left me hanging and really anxious to find out what was going to happen next for the Order. I love this series and have for ages! Zael and Brynne’s chemistry together in Defy the Dawn has the explosive quality you’ve come to expect from Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series and the steamy romances scenes darn near set the pages on fire. I really enjoyed learning more about the Atlanteans and can’t wait to see what happens next. Are they going to become allies with the Order? My only real disappointment with this book was that we didn’t get to see much of the Order interacting with Brynne and Zael, especially considering Brynne’s situation (benefit the Order) and how that might impact the threat by Queen Selene and Opus Nostrum. I’m really looking forward to the next book and to seeing the Order take on the Atlantean Queen and Opus Nostrum. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Defy the Dawn, by Lara Adrian, is another great story in the Midnight Breed Series. Daywalker Brynne Kirkland, sees herself as a laboratory mistake and has never allowed herself to get close to anyone. Zael is an Atlantean warrior who has recently become allies with The Order to stand against the Atlantean Queen, Selena. Defy the Dawn is the story of Brynne and Zael coming together despite everything working against them and the fact that they should be natural enemies. A perfect addition to the Midnight Breed Series, Ms. Adrian does not disappoint with this one. I loved getting to know these two characters almost as much as I loved catching up with the other Breed characters! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 3/4 It was good to be back in the Midnight Breed world. This has always been one of my favorite series and I am so happy that Ms. Adrian has continued this series. I was really happy to learn that Defy the Dawn was going to be Zael’s story. We have learned a lot about the Atlantean warrior over the last few books in the new world. But now we get an up close and personally experience with him. We also get to learn a lot more about the Atlantean’s world and what happened to them when the original Gen One’s showed up on earth. We meet Brynne in the last book and learned about her also. But there were still a lot of questions about who and what she was. We do get to learn more about who she is and what she maybe. But I felt like there is more to Brynne then we know. Defy the Dawn brings to light a whole new dimension to the battle that the Breeds are facing. Now they have two enemies gunning for them. Ms. Adrian has made the Breed’s future a scary one but I have faith that they will prevail and kick their enemies butts!! I can’t wait to see who and what is next in this series. Disclaimer: I purchased this book and this review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

I enjoy this book. Would have liked more activity on the island. Love Zael and Brynne together. They completed each other. Hummm... Sharon lived a long time after meeting Zael; gave birth and raised Dylan...

Man, I do love this series! I always have to sit on these stories for a few weeks before I read them as I know that as soon as its ended I'll want the next one! I've been intrigued about Zael since we first met him in previous books. I knew from the start he was going to be an honourable male and I'm glad at the end of this story I wasn't disappointed. Brynne is certainly an interesting character, it's hard not to give away too much as I hate spoiler reviews but she's such a strong, tough women that you just know she's the perfect match for my favourite Atlantean Warrior. Their chemistry is off the scale and the intimate scenes played out perfectly for these two. My only disappointment with this book was that we didn't get to see The Order's reaction to Brynne's situation, I think it would of given us a little fun in the middle of quite a dark story. It's certainly going to be interesting to see how the order deal with the double threat of Opus Nostrum and Selene the Atlantean Queen. The overall storyline is certainly picking up speed, I'm looking forward to seeing The Order kick some serious arse! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This series goes from strength to strength. So much has happened since the beginning of the series and yet the concept retains all its allure with the introduction of unexpected newcomers. The Order is still being undermined by Opus Nostrum, an organisation set of disrupting the peace treaty by using terror. Zael is an Atlatean and has been captivated by Brynne from the first time that he saw her. Brynne is Breed and immerses herself in her work as an investigator, until now. She is a loner for reasons known only to her. Zael has the reputation of being a ladies' magnet. Not that I can blame them! When he shows his interest in Brynne, she resists the attraction by reminding him of his reputation. She has a hard exterior but Zael appears to be able to see right through her. She has her reasons for keeping everyone at arms length and Zael is set on breaking down her barriers despite her continuous rejections. The chemistry between them is undeniable and when they get together sparks fly. When Brynne is caught in an attack by the vicious rogues, Zael doesn't hesitate to go after her. What he finds is totally unexpected. Brynne's fears of being found out have just become reality. Zael is now aware of her reasons for not letting anyone get close to her. His reaction is not what she expected though. He is not deterred in the least bit. If anything, he is determined to show her that he means business. I really enjoyed reading this instalment. It's full of threats, danger, betrayal, love and loyalty. It has a very good balance of action and passion. Seeing the "gang" working together again brings back memories of the first books in the series. Dante being there made my day! As he said "just like old times". I absolutely loved the way the relationship between Zael and Brynne developed. Steamy, passionate and loving. They make an ideal couple. The ending is beautiful but with Opus Nostrum still on the war path and the persistence of Selene, it will be interesting to see what happens next. A highly recommended series. I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Brynne has a secret but one look at Zael has shaken her to the core. Zael is an Atlantean and has recently befriended the Order. With Opus Nostrum’s attacks become more of a threat, Queen Selene breaks into the Order’s computers and vows to destroy the Order once and for all. The Order must have an alliance with the Altantean colony and has asked Zael to ask for their assistance. Sparks fly instantly between Brynne and Zael and now the Order has asked Brynne to accompany Zael to the Colony. Brynne wants more with Zael but afraid her secret will condemn her to a life alone. Zael has got to prove to Brynne that nothing is going to keep them apart. If you haven’t read this series – Read It! I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens next!

I have always enjoyed this series, but I really loved this book. Something about the characters really just made me feel for them and cheer for them. It's great that an author can keep my attention and interest this many books into a series. Thanks for not disappointing me! Now I'm going to read her next novella to hopefully hold me over until the next book comes out.
