The American Civil War stretched from April 12, 1861, in North Carolina until April 9, 1865, at Appomattox during term of President Abraham Lincoln.
The battles for the north under General Grant (principally), and for the south under General Robert E. Lee resulted in thousands of deaths on each side.
With the battle tactic of direct confrontation, the life of a soldier was in constant jeopardy, especially with the common medical practice of wound amputation. Thus, the will to fight was almost suicidal.

About the Author

R.C. Mc Dowell is a Middletown, Delaware native who has written twenty-two (22) novels since 1988. They range from the Civil War (2), USSR (3), Cuisine, The Mafia, Switzerland, Antiques, World War II, Law School, Gemology, and New York City.
He is a Delaware Division of Transportation (DELDOT) AND New Castle County (NCC) Planning Board retiree, who is an antique himself, an historic collector of Model A Ford vehicles and parts, and has traveled extensively in Europe.
The question remains as to the rationale for the freelance novel projects. Might it be from the ancestral blood of the Fullers and Winchesters of Worcester, Massachusetts, exhibited by my two late sisters, who held those nomemclatures?
