A dog finding a bone is no big deal--until it turns out to be human.

Mapleton Police Chief Gordon Hepler and the mayor can't agree about what being a cop means. To Gordon, it's keeping his citizens safe. To the mayor, it's generating revenue by issuing speeding and parking tickets.

When two runaway dogs waylay Gordon on the way to what he hopes will be an uneventful afternoon at a backyard barbeque, more than his afternoon is interrupted. As dogs will do, these have uncovered a bone. Trouble is, it turns out to be human. When it leads to the discovery of more human remains, Gordon needs to find out why they're on the property, when they got there, and who they belonged to. After all, somebody needs to care

Over the mayor's objections, Gordon pursues the investigation of the bones along with an unusual outbreak of petty crimes, accidents, and a dispatcher who seems to be losing it. Before long, he's got more puzzle pieces than he knows what to do with--and no puzzle to fit them into. When people he loves are endangered, no mayoral directive will stop Gordon from saving them.

This second book in the Mapleton Mystery series reunites Gordon with Detective Tyler Colfax, once again faced with cooperating to solve another case.

About the Author

Terry Odell began writing by mistake, when her son mentioned a television show and she thought she’d be a good mom and watch it so they’d have common ground for discussions.

Little did she know she would enter the world of writing, first via fanfiction, then through Internet groups, and finally with groups with real, live partners. Her first publications were short stories, but she found more freedom in longer works and began what she thought was a mystery. Her daughters told her it was a romance so she began learning more about the genre and craft. She belongs to both the Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Her titles include the Mapleton Mystery series, the Pine Hills Police series, the Blackthorne, Inc. series, as well as several stand alone titles and numerous contemporary romance short stories.

Now a multi-published, award winning author, Terry resides with her husband in the mountains of Colorado.

Reluctant police chief, Gordon Hepler isn't sure how to proceed when some neighborhood dogs uncover long-buried human bones. The quiet little town of Mapleton doesn't get a lot of call for high-level police activity, and the mayor doesn't want to waste money and resources on an obviously cold case without so much as a missing person to point them in the right direction. Terry Odell does a nice job layering Gordon's tenacity to solve the mystery of the bones without the approval of his boss with the clues that ultimately lead him to solve the case.

Terry Odell's Deadly Bones is a carefully plotted cozy mystery novel with an engaging hero and convincing secondary characters. I enjoyed the book a lot more than I expected to, given that my taste usually runs more to the hard-boiled genre. Despite the author's discussions of sex in the shower on Facebook, all of the characters in this novel behave properly at all times, so this book is appropriate for all ages from teen to Granny. The forensic aspects are well researched, and the whodunit, and perhaps more importantly the whydunit, keep you guessing for a large percentage of the total novel. The pace is good, accelerating nicely as we come to the finale. Recommended, no reservations. Buy a copy and enjoy the story.

Police chief Gordon Hepler has his hands full when a dog unearths a human bone, and the mayor wants him to hand out more speeding tickets. But a person is dead, their family needs closure, and Gorden needs to solve the case. More bones are found, more interference rains down from on high, and Gordon's personal life takes a big hit. A rash of nuisance crimes and injury to community members puts Gordon on full alert. Something's rotten in his town, and by George, he's going to stamp it out. Odell's cozy/police procedural kept my interest from start to finish. Those cinnamon rolls seemed so real I could taste them. Recommended for mystery lovers.

Wonderful small town cozy mystery starring the police chief and a baker. Starts out slowly, developing the characters and puzzling over buried bones, but before long, it takes off and rolls into a page turner. Intelligent, well-plotted, great characters, excellent mystery.
