Overview

In the thirteenth book of the popular Heartland series, the horses come down with an equine flu and the entire stable is quarantined, forcing Amy to realize there is a limit to how much she can do.

A fierce flu strain is infecting Heartland's horses, and, despite Amy and Ty's fervent efforts to treat and isolate those infected, the flu spreads to other horses and the vet quarantines Heartland. To make matters worse, the late summer heat heightens the tension. Ben is frustrated when Red starts to exhibit flu symptoms because their show season will be cut short. Ty thinks Ben is being selfish, and Amy feels caught in the middle. Then, just as some horses start to get better, a tornado devastates the valley. When the storm is over, everyone is forced to gain a new perspective.

This is the best seiries I have ever read and that says a lot coming from me. In this whole seiries i think that almost more bad than good things happen. I would explain it as a horse soap opera. Every bad thing that happens a good thing comes from it though. This is a definite must read for horse lovers. In this book especially a lot of sad things happen. Actually everything bad that can happen does to an extreme. Every time a bad thing happens though a good thing normally comes from it. This is one of my favorite books of the seiries. Me and two of my friends are reading it at the same time and that is almost everything we talk about. These books are good for any age but best for teens. If you are reading this buy the book!

One day amy goes out to get candy from the paddock and candy doesn't do her game of horse tag, amy touched candy and noticed that candys eyes were dull and had no spirit.Candy was advanced dressage horse but had started acting naught with her owners so they had sent candy to heartland. She took her into the back barn and Ty took her tempature it was 104*, that was not good. The normal tempature for a horse 101*.Amy called their vet Scott. When scott came he examined candy and then said ' I think it the equine flu'.Then later on more horses start to get sick like dylan, willow and other horses. Then Ben, the other stable hand is mad because he can't go to the shows. Then Red, Bens horse gets sick. One night here is a horrible tornado and amy and ty go out to get the horses and while amy is struggling to get a horse out ty is in dylans stall and dylanis kicking the back of his stall, then when dylan kicks more the beams begin to fall and they fall.this was a tragedy that might change amys life for ever! Amy rides to the hospital in ambulance with ty and her grandfather. later on amy finds out that ty is in a coma. The only part i didn't like was when it just kind of stopped at the end.overall i would say it 4 and2/3 stars, but i rounded it up to five stars. If you like intense books, this is the book for you. If you like light reads this book is not the book for you.

One day Amy finds out that Candy, a dressage horse who has been acting up lately, felt warm and didn't look good. Ty took her temperature-- 104*. A regular temperature is 101*. They immedietly call Scott, their vet and Amy's sister, Lou's boyfriend. He did some blood tests and says that she has equine flu. Amy and Ty have to keep her seperate from all horses and disefect everything, but it wasn't good enough and five other horses come down ill. Heartland is under quarentine. Not one horse can come in or leave Heartland. Soon, disaster strikes and a fierce thunderstorm come, follwed by a tornado. A tree is uprooted and falls on the back barn--- where all of the sick horses are at. Thankfully, it didn't go through the barn completely, but when Dylan, a future show jumper, starts kicking the wall, it unstables the barn. Quickly Amy and Ty tried to get Candy and Dylan, the two who were directly under the tree, out as soon as possible, but Dylan rams into his stall, making the barn collapse. Amy had a large cut on her forehead, but Ty is in fatel condition and goes into a coma. He has internal bleeding, and has to go into immediate operation, a broken leg, and a broken collar bone. Amy is heart broken, for Ty may not ever come out of the coma, let alone live. Meanwhile back at the barn, Dylan's leg was crushed and sadly had to be put down. Solitaire comes down with extreme pneumonia and can barely breath. Amy is torn. Ty isn't there to help her and she needs him badly. The insurance had just expired on the barn, so there was no coverage on the damage, and now Heartland is desperatly low on money. Read this book to find out more and see if Ty pulls through and comes out of his coma and lives and if and how the horses can pull through as well as Amy and Heartland.

This is probaly my favorite book out of this whole series. You can feel the intensity of the barn collapsing on you, the loss of Ty being in the coma, and the hard struggle of horses getting more and more sick. I couldn't get myself to stop reading this book, and when I was finished I begged my parents to take me to Barnes and Noble and buy the next books with my own allowence money. If you haven't read this, you need to.

If it wasn't for these books i wouldn't like reading and these books are cool they have romance, everyday problems and best of all they take in horses, heal them and then send them back to there owners or rehome them and it's just a mirical that Amy and the rest of heartland can survive without Marion. I was surprised when i found myself reading a book a day during X-mas break, but anyway these books are the BEST!!!!!!

This is one of the best books in the Heartland series! i have read every book, but this one is by far the best. In this book, an equine flu infects a lot of the horses at heartland. Despite Amy's efforts more horses start to get sick. Then, just as some of the horses start to get better, a tragedy strikes and everyone at Heartland is effected! What is it? You'll have to Read Heartland, DARKEST HOUR, to find out!

WHAT a great book! It's really good written: how Amy feels, her pain, her guilty and all that other little things. It's sad, really sad. But how great how Ty's mum can talk to Amy! And Daniel: keep your hands off please... Lauren Brooke written this book so real, it's just like the real life: fragile, pain, hope, guilty, hapiness... Read it!

This book was great! I loved it a lot and it only took me one day to finish because it is so wonderful. I recommend this book to anyone and if no one really likes it they must remember that it is fiction! It is sad and you want more but those characteristics keep you reading the series and those are the best things you need in a book. But do read this book it is really, really good!
