Overview

Alexis Morgan continues her dazzling paranormal series about larger-than-life warriors and the women they love....

As a Paladin warrior, Blake Trahern fights and dies again and again to keep mankind safe from the Others. Sensing his humanity slipping away with each battle, he retreats from the world...until the one person who still has a claim on his soul needs his help. It's been twelve years since Blake vanished from Brenna Nichols's life, years that have turned her from a love-struck teen into a headstrong, sensual woman. He'll fearlessly give his life to protect her — yet he dare not risk his heart.

Brenna is stunned by Blake's reappearance, and by a shocking discovery about her father. Everything she has ever believed is thrown into question — everything except the desire that Blake still ignites. But as they search together for a traitor among the Paladins, danger looms: the next battle could tip Blake into madness, destroying his life, his soul...and the only woman he has ever loved.

This novel was wonderful! I loved the story development and I absolutely fell in love with the characters! I could feel the conflict from the brewing relationship between Dr. Young and Devlin Bane. They put me on an emotional rollercoaster which I won't soon forget.

If you like this, perhaps you would love Lara Adrian series, Sherrilyn Kenyon series, Jacquelyn Frank, and my all-time fav J.R. Ward :)

I started out with book one and immediately became addicted to the point of downloading the entire series. I'm so glad that there are two groups of Paladins who live in two different locations. What's also exciting is that there is an alien culture which allows the author to stretch out her story. I fell in love with all the characters. Yeh! These books are definitely long term library keepers and I can't wait for the next book to come out.

One of my favorite books! Blake is such an in your face, what you see is what you get, this is how it is, kind of guy. These paladin heros are the ultimate alpha males. And, so far, Morgan knows how to create the perfect women for them.

When Brianna Nichols was a young girl when her father took in a tough street living teen, Blake Trahern, who had been brought into his Courtroom for one of many offenses. Brianna knew that her father had seen something in Blake that had inspired him to take a chance on him but she never knew that someday it would cost her father his life.Blake Trahern had been living the life of a Paladin since the time he graduated high school, thanks to the intervention of a caring judge who had recognized in him a potential to be more than a criminal youth. When he left his home at the age of 18 it was as much to get away from the Judge's too young, too enticing daughter, Breanna as it was to take up his place among the Paladins, warriors fighting against the monstrous Others. However, when Blake discovers that Breanna was almost killed in a car bombing that took her father's life, nothing in the world would stop him from protecting her. But, can Blake resist Breanna long enough to discover her father's murder and make sure she is safe?Dark Defender is the second installment in Alexis Morgan's paranormal romance series about Paladins fighting against creatures threatening to come into and take over our world. I think I enjoyed this volume perhaps a little more than the first book. I surely enjoyed reading about the characters of Blake and Breanna and found them to be interesting. It is easy to see what characters will probably get novels of their own in the future. I found the romance to be satisfying and the plot was interesting and exciting, if a little formulaic. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her next Paladin story, In Darkness Reborn, when it comes out at the end of the month.

A car explosion tore apart Brenna Nichols's life when it killed her father and left her in the hospital. Things get even stranger when the boy her father took in 12 years ago arrives -- all grown up and making some crazy claims. Paladin Blake Trahern reached out to his old mentor, Judge Nichols because he was the only Regent Trahern trusted. But whatever the Judge found got him killed and now Trahern feels responsible for keeping Brenna safe. In a change of scenery, Dark Defender takes us away from the Seattle Paladins as we follow Trahern to St. Louis. I liked getting to meet some other Paladins and see more of the extensive network of Regents, Paladins, and Handlers. In the first book, Trahern is told the next death could easily tip him over the edge of turning Other. Trahern isn't the most cuddly of guys, to begin with, but knowing he's so close to the edge leaves a heavy shadow over him. Even with Trahern's grumpy and short-tempered demeanor, it's clear how much he cares for Brenna and how determined he is to make his old mentor proud. These Paladins have a core of honor and Alexis Morgan never had me doubting Trahern even when he let his dark moods get the best of him. Brenna was the perfect heroine for Trahern; with her intelligence, courage, and compassion she can stand beside Trahern or even stand up to him if needed. Brenna's been through a nightmare losing her father right in front of her but she's a fighter. She never gives up and once she understands Trahern's true nature and the world he lives in, she accepts and welcomes him as he is. More than anything, Trahern needed to know someone loved and cared for him since he never had that growing up until he met the Judge. As a couple, Brenna and Trahern have a slower burn, mostly due to circumstances. They're on the run for a bit and Brenna is recovering from her injuries, but once these two give into their feelings it's all fireworks. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Trahern had a wicked sense of humor that would make itself known everyone once in a while. I loved those moments when he loosened up and once he learned that he could get on Brenna's nerves and fire her up, he doesn't hold back.

Morgan is getting into it now! We are finding out more about this new world with more twists and turns along the way! I still have lots of questions, but she's slowly answering some along the way. Blake and Brenna have a great storyline and a solid romance with great history! Very well done! Lots of action, some mystery and a little more steam from the last book. Still a little short, but thanks to the continued storyline it's more then made up for because of the series! Can't wait to see what's next with this continued plot from each book! Hopefully we will get lots of answers with this next book and Barak! You totally need to read these bad boys in order! I'm hooked and its kind of nice because they are quick reads!

The second book in the Paladins series was just as sweet as the first. The lobe story between Blake and Brenna was fated from the moment that Blake went to live with her and her father 12 years earlier. Tragedy brings them back together but it is their love for each other that heals more than just thr grief of loosing her father.
