August 14 and September 11 were the last two of a string of dates on Lori Torchia’s list. But nothing in the chronology seemed to correspond to them.. Then it hit reporter Rebecca Taft. ‘The dates are in the future. Lori’s telling us that there will be terrorist attacks on August 14 and September 11!’ Taft felt sick to her stomach.

Paula Janković is a willing tool of Constantine Petrenko, a Russian oligarch with a penchant for world domination and insatiable greed. Using a superstorm of dark data and fake news, Janković has become skilled at harnessing the power of the mysterious Selfish Ledger and personal social media accounts to get innocent people to do her bidding, however horrible it may be. Abu al-Badri is a terrorist leader who wants to further his cause. By aligning himself with the same wealthy benefactor, he has all he needs to access top targets around the world to wreak unimaginable violence and destruction.

Together Janković and al-Badri unleash a coordinated attack that is designed to leave societies and financial markets in ruins and no one richer or more powerful than the Russian standing at the top.

Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite Dark Data: Control, Alt, Delete is a work of thrilling fiction based on conspiracy and terror, and was penned by author Douglas J. Wood. Written for adults due to its explicit scenes of violence, some nudity and language, this engaging and edgy tale focuses on the dark deeds and plots of terrorists Constantine Petrenko and Abu al-Badri. Paula Jankovic is a willing pawn in the game, targeting particular figureheads for her bosses to topple societies, markets, and entire financial systems. It seems that only a plucky reporter discovering some incredible predictions can find a way to defeat the rising tide of dark data that threatens to engulf the world. Author Douglas J. Wood has created a superbly engaging plotline for fans of terrorism thrillers and political conspiracy novels to enjoy. The ties and clues to the mysteries are tightly woven and cleverly placed, revealing moments that connect to both past and present for the keen-eyed readers who can pick them out. Character development is reserved for particular moments so that the plot can shine without too much emotional interference, but the characters do have their moments of strife where we as readers can relate to them effectively. Wood also has a skill for tension, constructing powerful yet simple sentences which build the atmosphere whilst delivering snippets of knowledge, and compelling dialogue that raises the hairs on his readers’ arms. Overall, Dark Data: Control, Alt, Delete is a thrilling page-turner with plenty of intelligent twists and believable yet amazing plot points.
