Navy SEAL Sam Sasseville resents being called upon to repeatedly rescue Madison Scott-an oil tycoon's daughter-from trouble of her own making. Just weeks after extracting her from drug-riddled Mexico, Maddy disappears into the terrorist-threatened region of El Chaco, Paraguay.

Dedicated to protecting the world's last agricultural frontier from her family-owned oil wells, Maddy knows her long-dead activist mother would approve of her work, even if that blasted Navy SEAL doesn't.

But between the terrorists trying to nab her and the shadowy assassin intent on snuffing out her life, Maddy and Sam discover a common goal-keeping her alive-while Sam faces a difficult choice: love Maddy just the way she is, or walk away with just his pride for company.

I absolutely loved Sam and Maddy's story. Danger Close is an excellent start to Marliss Melton's new Echo Platoon series. Sam is a Navy SEAL with a chip on his shoulder about rich people. Maddy is an environmentalist and the daughter of an extremely wealthy and influential man. When they meet they have tremendous chemistry. Their relationship develops as they face dangerous situations (mostly Sam having to rescue Maddy). Sam's feelings about wealthy people drive a wedge between the two but they really do love each other. Together they face challenge after challenge to stay alive. There are lots of twists but the story in Danger Close is very satisfying and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Disappointed.. Maddy was too easy for sex with Sam almost from the beginning. She kept putting herself in danger which put others in danger. She was smart but lacked sense. Didnt really like her.

This was my first Marliss Melton novel and I really enjoyed it.  I immediately purchased the novella and have plans to buy the next book in this series when it comes out.  I also plan on reading her other series in the near future.

This story should be titled Colamity Jane. This woman just keeps getting rescued from one peril after another.

DANGER CLOSE introduces us to the men of Echo Platoon, who seem destined to be as hot, as strong and as crazy about their women as all the previous heroes Melton has written. Navy SEAL Lt. Sam Sasseville couldn't be less happy with the mission to rescue Madison Scott, the daughter of an oil tycoon, partly because he thinks she's just a spoiled brat who should have had sense enough to leave the dangerous Mexican city when the US embassy ordered her out, and partly because he has a well-earned distrust of rich people in general. Add to that the fact that he's missing out on a chance to eliminate an arms dealer responsible for maiming one of his SEAL brothers (see Melton's novella LOOK AGAIN for the full story on that SEAL) and following through with 'Operation Dumb Broad' is one of the hardest things Sam has ever had to do. Even after Maddy is safe at home in Virginia, it's an uphill battle for Sam to steer clear of the feisty environmentalist, especially when it seems like everyone from Maddy's father to the US Navy is trying to throw them together. Their world's collide again in Paraguay where Sam is tasked with shutting down a terrorist group intent on sabotaging oil wells owned by Scott Oil Corporation, while Maddy is there looking for evidence of how the oil wells are impacting the environment. The story and the romance between Sam and Maddy both pick up steam quickly after Maddy has a face-to-face encounter with the terrorists. From then on, the story is a roller coaster ride of dangerous situations, followed by narrow escapes, with Sam and Maddy jumping from the frying pan into the fire more than once. Oh, and speaking of fire, the heat these two generate in the love scenes is downright scorching! The true test of their relationship, however, comes not from a terrorist threat, but from their divergent backgrounds. Can a self-made man like Sam settle down with a rich debutante? Or do they have more in common than Sam is willing to admit? I highly recommend this book. I love Melton's books for many reasons, primarily her hot alpha heroes and the ballsy women they fall for, but it is also because I am fascinated with the 'military mystique' and the bond shared by those who have served honorably in combat. I can't wait to see more of Echo Platoon in the rest of the series!

This book is a great disappointment. I’ve waited forever for this book to be released. It’s hard to like a book when you don’t like the characters. Maddie is a do-good idealist who doesn’t even have her own ideals, wanting to please her dead mother. As a result of her thoughtless actions, she puts other people at risk. Sam spends more time lusting after her instead of concentrating on his job. This is the first time this author has left me hanging.

DANGER CLOSE by Marliss Melton is another exciting Military Thriller/Suspense. #1 in "THE ECHO PLATOON" SERIES set in Mexico and El Chaco, Paraguay. However, there is a prelude/Novella to this series, "Look Again". I would suggest reading for your pleasure as well. But it is not a necessity to enjoy and devow "DANGER CLOSE", which I must say I did. Couldn't put it down, once I started reading! Meet, Navy SEAL Sam Sassevile and tycoon daughter, Madison Scott. Sam is constantly rescuing Maddy from her follies. So when she disappears, he is off once again to save her, if he can. But what he finds is so much more than even he bargained for in this rescue. Fast paced, heart-pounding tale of suspense, intrigue, danger, pride, terrorists, passion, romance and love. What more could you ask for in a riveting story? The sparks flies off the pages, as well as the danger. Ms. Melton knows how to write an awesome Suspense Thriller, using her Military expertise, her knowledge of what readers enjoy, and her awesome storytelling skills. I have not read a book yet, she has written that I was disappointed in reading. The characters are engaging, passionate, and compelling. The storyline is intriguing and suspenseful with twists and turns along the way. And the sensuality is an absolutely wicked. Has just the right mixture of romance, danger, sensuality, and suspense to keep the reader involved and turning pages. An absolute delight to read! A keeper as well as a job well done! I look forward to the next thrill-seeking suspense in this series. Bring it on, please, hurry, if you please!! Received for an honest review. Talk about two head strong characters clashing! Whew! I think that the hardest part of a writer is writing an excellent strong willed female lead that doesn't come across as a cow. As usual Marliss Melton manages just that! It was an exciting read from beginning to end and I really hated to put it down, My only two complaints... Well maybe a complaint and a question is ONE: The book was too short! Ms. Melton could have gone on for another 100,000 words and I wouldn't have complained! TWO: Why do we have to wait so long for the next book?

Marliss Melton is my absolute favorite author. She writes the most realistic military suspense romance I have ever read. Danger Close was another feather in her cap of excellence. Being immersed in her characters world as they struggle with duty and romance and try to balance them both to make them work is a lesson in compromise. These guys are alpha males and dominants and the women are passionate and strong, sometimes they don't realize just how strong until they are tested. This book is the first book in her newest series Echo Platoon. The prequel for Echo Platoon, LOOK AGAIN, is already out. We meet Sam Sasseville on a mission he thinks is unworthy of his teams skill and time. He has made his feelings about it well known to his team mates as they go on a rescue mission to pull out a rich girl who didn't have the sense to get out of a war torn Matamoros Mexico when she was told to. His issues with rich people are deeply seeded and this is just another demonstration to affirm his beliefs. Only, from the moment he first laid eyes on Maddy he can't stop thinking about her. Even when he is in another country and on a new mission his mind is filled with a kiss that could have been more. Madison "Maddy" Scott volunteered at El Santuario in Matamoros Mexico as a teacher to young girls. When the call came to evacuate the country she couldn't bring herself to abandon them to be swallowed up by the Drug Lords to be used and sold. When the SEAL team sent to 'rescue' her took her away she had no idea what changes were in store for her. Meeting Sam was the first big one. Her next assignment was the second, and the third was a surprise to everyone. If Sam knew what she was about to do he would tie her up in her bedroom and never let her leave her pampered life. When Sam and Maddy meet again it is in the most unlikely of places, causing a huge mess for both of them and a lot sooner than either of them expected. Tension between the two rockets out of control and passion takes over. Being caught together is not an option for either one because if anyone found out the repercussions could be deadly. The thing about keeping things hidden and deadly situations is they normally do go south and when they do, will Maddy or Sam be in the middle of it and who will be the ones riding to the rescue? Danger Close has some twists and a lot of action to keep you reading well into the night. It was so hard to put this book down when I started reading it. Her research into every little thing shows in her writing, from the trees in Paraguay to the kinds of equipment they would use. It makes reading these books so realistic and easy to picture every scene. As always with her books I would recommend them to anyone who loves romance and suspense. I'm looking forward to the next read from her already!
