Quite simply, this is the best true crime book I've ever read. It's a first-person narrative by Clifford Irving, a first-rate novelist, who actually became a witness in the murder trial because he knew more about the case than the attorneys. It has unusual depth and all the suspense you'd ever want from a true tale.

I got thru most of this book. I love to read books about older crimes that were published before social networking and Google and all that! But this book bored me! I kept expecting something shocking to happen, but it was just dragging on and on, and I felt the author was very opinionated and not in a good way. Very curious to know where they all are today though.

From the beginning this book is mired in the details. Instead of the fast paced ride I have come to expect from the average true crime novel, this book delivers a far too detailed and laborous exposition of events. Possibly a great editor could have saved this story. The author spends an inordinate amount of time reporting endless details of each event while neglecting to inject any insight into the characters motivations. A truly uninspired narration.

This book is tedious and way too long!
