On the strength of the hit duet with Aaron Neville, "Don't Know Much," Cry Like a Rainstorm -- Howl Like the Wind returned Linda Ronstadt to the top of the charts. The album was a collection of well-constructed adult contemporary pop, which suits her voice better than the traditional pop she recorded during the mid-'80s. Musically, Cry Like a Rainstorm isn't as adventurous as Canciones de Mi Padre, nor is it as consistent as Trio, the album she recorded with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, but it is her most satisfying mainstream pop album she has made since the late '70s.

This is a pure joy to listen to. Particularly Adios and Goodbye My Friend. She sings with such perfect pitch and always performs them exactly as she records them when she sings live. She is amazing.

This was Linda's last multi platinum seller boasting several hits, DON'T KNOW MUCH, ALL MY LIFE, WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY. With the vocal assist from Aaron Neville (this disc helped launch him into the pop music field) an extremely lush production by long-time producer/manager, Peter Asher, Asher utilizes the huge Skywalker Symphony Orchestra for this unusual collection of songs. Neville and Linda harmonize perfectly like two spoons in a drawer on 5 cuts. The opener STILL WITHIN THE SOUND OF MY VOICE is stunning and one of the many highlights on this great disc and ends it with a sorrowful AIDS anthem "GOODBYE MY FRIEND", That is truly heartfelt and never maudlin. This multi Grammy winning recording belongs in all music lovers collections. As a footnote: DON'T KNOW MUCH became the wedding anthem of the year when it was released (#2).
