Morgan's powers are stronger than she ever imagined. She has visions, she lights fires with her mind, and her spells work miracles. When her boyfriend Cal, a member of the same coven, insists that witchcraft is in her blood, Morgan is confused. Her parents definitely aren't witches. They do seem to be keeping something secret, though-something about Morgan's past.

I initially purchased this book with my daughter in mind; however, I have been reading it myself. I have found that this is a great series, as well as a great read! To my surprise, the storyline is nowhere near dull and I can't seem to put it down until I'm done. And then, I have to run out and by the next book or two in the series. I even caught myself getting mad because I knew that I would finish the book late one night and would have to wait until the next day to keep reading! Anyhow, with all that said... buy the series! It's better than I thought!

Morgan has just discovered that she's a blood witch, a descendant from one of the seven clans. If she's a blood witch, then that must mean her parents and little sister are witches too, but why would they have lied to her about it? She find that answer as soon as she confronts her parents about it after her ex-best friend, Bree, conveniently drops off Morgan's Wicca books that she had been hiding at Bree's house. Morgan was adopted! The news is such a betrayal to Morgan from her parents- at least the people she believed to be her parents, that she has trouble not feeling furious with them. With the new truth, comes the impulse to find out who she really is, who her real parents were, but she didn't expect what she would find. The only good thing in her life is magick and her new boyfriend, Cal, who also happens to be a blood witch. The Coven is just as promising as Book of Shadows. Cate Tiernan does a wonderful job with writing novels that deal with magic and witches. Even though the novel is short, it is quite intriguing. The book just pulls me in and refuses to let go until I have completed the story. It's filled with danger, magick, passion, and secrets that enchants the reader. I'm eager to read the next book to this captivating series.

These are my new favorite lunch books. In this second book, Morgan is learning more about her family and about her powers. She is a little pissy through a lot of the book, but she is going through a lot of issues so I cut her some slack for this book. Hopefully she will have her big girl panties on for the rest of the series. This is turning out to be quite a fun series. I expect much angst and drama in my future. Can't wait!

it was better than the first, but i still wonder when we're going to get to the real story. i'll probably be inter-library loaning the rest in the series.

"The Coven," Book 2 in the 'Sweep' series starts off with a butt load of DRAMA! At the end of the first book Morgan learns that she is Blood Witch. This lead her to the logical conclusion that her parents too were Blood Witches. When she enters an argument over the Wiccan books her "friend" Bree left on their doorstep, Morgan confronts her parents about being a Blood Witch. This leads to her parents revealing a secret they have kept from her, her whole life...(You will just have to read to find out what). As the rift between Morgan and Bree grows, so too does her relationship with Cal, the one who introduced her to Wicca. Do to the relationship between Morgan and Cal, Bree and Raven go off and start their own coven with a Blood Witch from England named Sky. In the end Morgan meets Sky and her cousin Hunter, who also happens to be Cal's half brother. She felt wary upon meeting Sky and Hunter at Cal's house and while trying to get away from them, she accidently stumbles into Cal's mother's (Selene) secret library. Inside she finds something that changes her life, she finds...her birth mother's Book of Shadows. As I said; DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA! but it is written in a way that keeps it interesting. Normally with so much drama going on you would get to the point where you go, "come on, no one's life is the screwed up," but Mrs. Tiernan is able to keep you from getting to the point. A quick and fabulous read. Mrs. Tiernan was was able to write a book including Wicca and Witchcraft that I believe, whether you be Christian, Muslim, Jew, or Pagan, all can enjoy.

I was hoping for another quick read when I picked up Cate Tiernan's The Coven and besides being distracted with school, this was a perfect fit. After finding out that she is a Blood Witch, Morgan is thrust deeper into her Wicca studies and relationship with Cal (obligatory dreamy teenage boy). Unfortunately for Morgan, most of her other relationships are dying out as she becomes totally involved with her new life. She also discovers some new power. However, towards the end of the novel we begin to wonder if she can trust who she thought she could trust. There is a reason that this series has a lot of books in it, Tiernan loves to let the drama get thicker and thicker. It reads much like a teenage soap opera, but it is fun without a lot of heavy duty issues popping up. I recommend it to feed that guilty pleasure we have of watching teenagers dig themselves in further than they should go and wonder how to get out of the mess that they have created. Happy reading!

Cal, Morgan and the rest of the group are now officially a Coven. Morgan¿s powers continue to astound the rest of them, could she be a blood witch? Because of jealousy, Morgan is no longer friends with Bree.

"It is not how blood witches live, but is how they learn, how they servive in a world much like Morgans. Peoplr fear beings much like Cal and Cal's mother. We very much depend on witches, but the witches morely depends on us. To understand..." Silver Werewolf/Wolf
