"If your 'weighty thinking' does not change, then even if you lose weight you'll retain an overwhelming subconscious urge to gain it back. It's less important how quickly you lose weight, and more important how holistically you lose weight; you want your mind, your emotions, and your body to all 'lose weight.' Weight that disappears from your body but not from your soul is simply recycling outward for a whilebut is almost certain to return. It's self-defeating, therefore, to struggle to drop excess weight unlessyou are also willing to drop the thought-forms that initially produced it and now hold it in place."- Marianne WilliamsonWhat is the connection between spirituality and weight loss? Best-selling author Marianne Williamson is about to answer that question for you in her groundbreaking new book, bringing you 21 spiritual lessons to help you surrender your weight forever. These lessons form a holistic paradigm for weight loss, addressing the spiritual, emotional, and psychological elements involved in what Williamson refers to as "conscious weight loss." If you are a food addict, a compulsive eater, or someone who for any reason sees food as the enemy, this book is for you.A Course in Weight Loss addresses the true causal root of your weight-loss issues: a place within you where you have forgotten your divine perfection. This forgetfulness has confused not only your mind but also your body, making you reach for that which cannot sustain you . . . and reject that which does. As your mind reclaims its spiritual intelligence, your body will reclaim its natural intelligence as well. The 21 lessons in this book will take you on a deep, sacred journey. One step at a time, you will learn to shift your relationship with yourself-and your body-from one of fear to one of love. And you will begin to integrate the various parts of yourself-mind, body, and spirit-to become, once again, and in all ways, the beautiful and peaceful person you were created to be.As Williamson writes: "When it comes to your enjoyment of eating, your best days are not behind you but ahead of you!" So get ready to begin a new relationship with food . . . and with yourself.

If you are already a fan of Marianne Williamson, you will probably enjoy this book. If you are not familiar with her, it may help to know her background before considering this book. She has spent many years studying and teaching the concepts of "A Course in Miracles" which is a spiritual book. She noticed that while embracing these concepts, her emotional need to use food to suppress her negative feelings disappeared. The idea of writing this book came from a conversation with Oprah Winfrey, one of the world's best known dieters. As you might suspect, this book is not about food, it is about spirituality. It is about finding a power greater than you for help. As Marianne told Oprah, "If you could do it by yourself, you would have done it by now". Good point! Many people will relate to the thoughts in this book. Childhood wounds create addictive behavior to treat the wounds. When you overeat for comfort, you are not doing it to give yourself love - you are doing it because you dislike something about yourself. When you eat one cookie, it is okay. When you eat the whole bag, it is an act of self-hate. The premise is that the cause of excessive weight is not in your body, it is in your mind. More specifically, it is fear which blocks feelings of love. The purpose of this course is to find the fear and replace it with love. There are several exercises and assignments to help you put names on the feelings, such as pain, shame, loathing and whatever you are personally feeling. There are prayers and mental exercises, as well as a journaling section. This is not a book to read passively and expect your life to change. If you really do these things to find and change your feelings, it will probably work for you. This is also a book that is meant to be reviewed several times to reinforce your feelings. If you tend to be more of a passive reader who wants to read a book and go on to the next one, you might want to consider the audio version of this book and listen to it several times. Marianne is an excellent speaker and really connects with the listener. She is very passionate. If you are turned off by spirituality and references to God, you may be tempted to skip this book. The ideas and principles are really about your subconscious feelings and how they drive your eating. You are feeding your feelings and not your body. They can apply to anyone no matter what your spiritual beliefs are. This is not a book to be used alone, because it does not address food. Eating is not rocket science. There is not a heavy person in the world that doesn't know that broccoli is good for you and donuts are bad. However, in today's world it is important to understand more about how certain foods affect your body. Dr. Dean Ornish writes the forward to this book and discusses addictive behavior and diet failure. He and others like him are a good source of information on nutrition. I highly recommend this book to everyone who has struggled with their eating. An obsession with food is like any obsessive relationship. It is about getting and not giving. What is missing from your life? What are you trying to get from food? Bill Cashell - Author of "The Emotional Diet - How to Love Your Life More and Food Less"

If you are looking for the next diet or set of RULES to MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT this is not the book for you. This book goes beyond diet. By now we all know that being overweight has to do with emotions not food. Once you manage your emotions the food will fall into place. If all the books about diets have NOT worked why not try something different??

This book is about more than weight loss. It is actually a spiritual journey that will get to the root of your problems that is causing you to gain the weight back again and again. If you have ever battled that unwanted bulge, then this is the book for you. I'd also recommend that you buy "When God Stopped Keeping Score," which takes an intimate, yet revealing look at the power of God and forgiveness. Given the chance, it too will change your life.

Marianne's book is definitely what I needed right now in my life! "A Course in Weight Loss" addresses issues of how we disempower ourselves, how we hate how we look, how we feel about ourselves when we don't feel good about ourselves. As spiritual as I think I am, circumstances can and do de-rail me now and again and before I know it, those disempowering thoughts cause the weight to come right back! This is a book that is definitely a "course" - a step-by-step approach to - a diet? NO! The approach is to assist us in being willing to take on that which, as "A Course in Miracles" says, is our only problem - we think we are separate from God. It is a step-by-step approach to have us remember Who we are: a beautiful, perfect child of God - and, as such, everything we need is right here already. We need only remember Who we are. Marianne's instructions are graceful and loving: to build an altar to ourselves and that which we know to be the Divine within us. Then, Marianne guides us: to enhance our altars as a symbol of being in touch with our own spirit, buying ONE piece of carefully and lovingly chosen piece of fruit to put on the altar, to write letters to the self we are leaving behind so as to transform to the Self we are becoming, and to become aware of those triggers that send us right back into our pain. It is nothing less than a spiritual journey into our own hearts and minds to find the Real Self, the thin and whole spiritual Self that has been there all along.

I really thought this book would be like most other dieting books but was happily suprised that it was not. It gave me a bit more insight than I expected. Overall, a recommend.

I read the book all the way through twice - once to get the gist of it, and then again more slowly to try to absorb and apply it. While I appreciate some of the good advice, I must admit that I have not lost a pound. For those previously traumatized, maybe more appropriate - all with weight loss issues have not been traumatized though. Yet I gave my copy to my best friend and recommended it to someone else. There is something positive for everyone to take away, although the pounds may not melt away.

I have loved reading many things by Marianne Williamson in the past. So I looked forward to reading through this to see how I can better help myself as I attempt yet again to lose weight. What I wasn¿t expecting was how emotional this book would actually be. One of the core concepts behind this book is to get in touch your spirituality and healing your inner self. And you do this through exercises and journaling. If you are completely honest with the exercises and the journaling you can start to break through to the deep seated fears that may be keeping you fat.I know that there were many things that I started looking at during these exercises. I know that I still have quite a long way to go on my journey, but at least I decided to take the first step. This book may not be for everyone. You really have to be open to working through your issues. This isn¿t a book that will give you instant solutions to your problems. It does provide you the tools to help you fix yourself. In conjunction with the Wakela's World Disclosure Statement, I received a product in order to enable my review. No other compensation has been received. My statements are an honest account of my experience with the brand. The opinions stated here are mine alone.

For anyone who has struggled with weight issues (studies say that two-thirds of Americans are overweight), A Course in Weight Loss is a must-read. The course takes you on a journey to freedom in 21 lessons. You delve into the core of the matter and get to the subconscious to help you make that pivotal shift from fear to real freedom and love. According to author Marianne Williamson, “The real you is neither fat nor skinny. The real you is not a body at all but rather a spirit, an energy, an idea in the mind of God. The real you is a being of light and therefore has no material density. As you align more and more with this truth of your being, this higher reality will permeate all aspects of your life. The more you identify with the light of your being, the lighter you will feel.” Be prepared for amazing wisdom, insight and perhaps even your own weight loss miracle. — Annette Epifano, New Connexion Journal
