An American author who wrote pulp fiction in a diverse range of genres. He is well known for his character Conan the Barbarian and is regarded as the father of the sword and sorcery subgenre.

The Devil in Iron-
Conan leads the kozaks--warrior horsemen--but they don't really enter in the story itself, that's just where he is on his career path. There's a mysterious city that appears overnight, a seemingly indestructable demon, and a blond princess/slave who needs to be rescued.
Queen of the Black Coast-
Conan has barely escaped pursuers after his court appearance does not go well (he kills the judge). Attempting escape by sea, he is quickly captured by a beautiful pirate queen. Plenty of pulpy action follows.
