What a relief to discover this book, featuring "Big Marge" a no nonsense Scottish police inspector. Details of the plot are summarized already, so I won't repeat. In addition to the mystery story, which is engrossing enough in and of itself, there is also some very nice writing ... particularly when describing the landscape and its moods. The inclusion of Scottish "vocabulary" was not irritating, as often with "foreign" language throw-ins, but added local flavor and may even help out on our next trip to Scotland. I look forward to reading other books featuring Big Marge - wonderful to have another intelligent and human detective to follow.

Very much enjoyed this unusual mystery. The main character felt very real. Well written.

Plot was incredible but poor writing ruined the enjoyment. This book was far too wordy to be engaging. I won't bother with another in this slow, boring series. Stephanie Clanahan

Being a big fan of Stephen Booths "Ben Cooper" series I thoroughly enjoy reading the "Marjory Fleming" series as well. They are set in Scotland and provide interesting and well thought out character insights as well as a beautiful description of Scottish landscapes, rural life, police proceedings and as a special treat, the difficulty to be a woman in a mostly male dominated profession. I hope Aline Templeton will write a lot more novels with Marjory Fleming as the protagonist!

As in a Sherlock Holmes book, it weaves back and forth with different clues until, near the end, you finally figure it out.
