Josh Groban, the 22-year-old heartthrob singer whose self-titled debut lit up the classical crossover charts for months on end, invites listeners to get Closer on his sophomore studio release (he has also issued a live album tied to a PBS special). Joining again with producer David Foster, Groban delivers another set of heartwarming Europop songs -- including some co-written by the young crooner himself -- that holds true to the endearing formula that drew in his large cadre of fans. Lush, atmospheric production underscores Groban's soulful singing -- and no doubt about it: this boy can sing -- and fans with a hunger for his rich, expressive baritone putting over touching ballads will not be disappointed. Yet the album mixes in other elements, too. World-music touches (such as a Spanish guitar on "My Confession") lace several of the numbers with exotic colors, while Joshua Bell's sweet-toned violin adds lovely spins and swirls to the sentimental "Mi Mancherai (Il Postino)," and the innovative duo Deep Forest help Groban break away from romantic ballads on the rhythm-driven "Never Let Go." Groban's voice has also developed new power and range, as shown by his solid vocal prowess on such numbers as "Per Te" and the gospel choir–backed "You Raise Me Up" (though labeling his singing "operatic" remains wishful thinking). And while the album is less a valiant departure than a satisfying follow-up to the promise of his debut, to Groban's many fans, that's no concession at all.

Although we haven't heard the whole CD, the cuts we have heard indicate that the whole thing will be extraordinary. Two have been posted on the fan website, and one was included on the CD enclosed with the DVD of the PBS concert.

Josh Groban's CD "Closer" is definitely everything I've been waiting for in his new release. This CD has a different sound then his first release, but the sound compliments his voice just as well. I recommend "Closer" to anyone who loves Josh Groban or Classical music.

I don't care what ANYONE says--Josh Groban has a gorgeous voice!!! A good friend lent this CD to me this past week, and it was the best borrowed CD I have ever had the good fortune to come upon. What a serendipitous find! Happily, I finally bought the album yesterday. His voice is piercing, full of a clarity and sincerity rarely found in today's pop music. Not only that, his songs themselves are lovely and meaningful. I find myself wanting to cry at certain times when listening to this album. Josh Groban has certainly been blessed in his talent. Don't ignore "Mi Mancherai (Il Postino)": it is an absolute jewel. Joshua Bell's violin performance only adds to the beauty of Josh's vocals. "When You Say You Love Me" is 100x better than anything an American Idol could ever produce, and "You Raise Me Up" is a song in the tradition of a great classic, "Danny Boy." Enjoy the magnificent music of Josh Groban!

Once again Josh Groban has exhibited his fantastic voice. In this album, several songs which were considered a bit "Distant" from his style, were incorporated to make some hair-raising arrangements! With guests like Joshua Bell, Deep Forest and others; this album is what the Grobanites have been waiting for! I've been a Grobanite for 3 years now... and I'll say... this is IT! We've been waiting for this forever now! Based on the two singles that have been put up for streaming; the album will top sales charts upon release... as it has already been #1 at and it's STILL IN PRE-ORDERS! This is as good as it gets! Order while you still can!

This cd is awesome. When I saw him perform in the oscars he took my breath away, and I just couldn't wait to buy the cd. And now that I have it, it's on everyday. And the best thing about the cd is the musical, the intruments, and how they are used to make the most wonderful songs I have ever heard. You have GOT to get this CD. You won't regret it.

"Closer" is Josh Groban's second album, the follow-up to his 2001 self-titled album. I don't have the words to describe the album, it is inspiring. I have never been a fan of "Pop Opera" that's what I have titled his genre as. But since Josh Groban's 2001 self-titled album, I have been a loyal fan. He is truly talented and it is good to finally see a new face and sound in music. He isn't as intimidating as Andrea Bocelli or Sarah Brightman, artists which I might not have given a chance if I had not listened to both of Josh Groban's albums. He has a great talent which will take him to great heights and new frontiers. "Closer" is a bolder Josh, as seen on his first song, "Oceano," in the middle of the song there's a small solo with an electric guitar, which had not been seen on his previous album. Without a doubt my favorite song has got to be "Si Volvieras A Mi" the only Spanish track on the album. "Broken Vow" is a great heart break song. The album is full of heartfelt songs and I think that's what people need right now. People need something they can rely on to relax them without putting them to sleep, and this is just it. All in all the album is great, I can't wait to see him on tour!!!

This is nothing like his previous CD. "You raise me up" is the only hit here. His singing is still great but the songs aren't. There's nothing special about the song writing either. Please listen to the samples before you buy.

Listening to Josh Groban will secure in your mind the notion that there truly is a god that bestows a special gift upon us all. Josh's is his angelic barritone voice. This album made my wife fall in love with me all over again. Try this one guys... Works best when combined with a homemade meal, a nice Merlot and 15 or 20 candles..!!

This CD is fantastic. Josh has a beautiful voice and the music is fantastic, and I'm a fan of hardcore/screamo this is really saying something. My friend introduced me to him and I've been hooked.

First of all-whoever 'music-master' is they don't have a clue about music. He sings in Italian-any music fan would know that. If you listen to the likes of contestants on 'American Idol'-they can't sing-they all suck they don't know what music is. This is one of the best albums I have ever heard. he does a great job on Per Te!

The 2 songs OCEANO and YOU RAISE ME UP are just so incredible. His voice is so powerful and the music are so wonderful! I can't wait for Nov. 11. Everybody should buy this CD and enjoy the voice and talent of JOSH GROBAN.

There are so many mediocre artists that all sound the same in this pop driven culture but Josh Groban breaks the mold. He has such a strong voice and annunciates all of his words perfectly in all of the languages he sings in. He is truly a breath of fresh air.

The best way to describe this album is by saying that "Closer" is the best album of the year. Josh Groban and David Foster come together to make a true masterpiece.

I heard Josh sing "You Raise Me Up" to Oprah at her 50th Birthday Celebration and knew that was the song my young friends Adam and Cherice needed for their upcoming May 8th Wedding, so I just listened to audio's of the other songs and emailed her mom so they can listen to them to! I love this guy! I am gonna request this CD for my birthday in April!!!!!!! what an incredible young man!!!!!!!! He's gonna go places......Gail C. Taylor, Ukiah, CA

Josh Groban's sophomore album is truly a masterpiece. It showcases his improved vocal range, strength and richness of his voice. He was fantastic in his debut album. You wonder how could he improve and he certainly has. I hope he doesn't wait two years before his next album is released. Maybe a Christmas album next year? JanC

Someone else said "too bad there aren't 6 stars"---I agree. I saw him on Oprah last year and fell in love with his voice. His music is absolutely fantastic. I would have never imagined myself liking his music, because I am a rock-obsessed music fan. He's got true talent. I'd do almost anything to be at one of his shows.
