I defy you not to be moved by these meditations of a great artist going blind. Red pours out of his eyes. Political, whimsical, ornery, sexy and learned. The world is richer for his alchemy.

ahh the hues and shades of emotion that pour from this work have added more to my understanding of color than my fine arts degree ever could

Derek Jarman's deconstruction of the visible spectrum is as diverse as the rainbow itself. Part color theory, part diary, with a bit of botany, some memoir, and a plentitude of poetic ephemera--all selectively sprinkled with the socio-political commentary of a gay rights advocate. Chroma exists between the short passages which make up the chapters who take their names from the various colors of the spectrum. Chroma is informative, thought provoking, and lyrical. It is Derek Jarman at his best and brightest, suitable for artists, poets, and gardeners alike.
