Tragically widowed, Thea Kozak is tall, brave, and trying to rebuild her life.
Then her little sister is murdered in a picturesque Maine town. The police have no leads. Her grieving parents are eager to put everything behind them, and Thea--"little mother" to her adopted sister--refuses to back down. Not when she can do one more thing for Carrie: find the killer and get justice for her little sister.
But the truth behind Carrie and her adoption proves ugly, and her killer steadfastly believes family secrets must be kept silent.

An engaging, easy read, with a solidly-constructed, interesting mystery. The characters are compelling - even when they're not entirely likeable (and when they're entirely unlikable) - and the mystery, while surprisingly gory, is good enough that you really want to know how it ends. Lots of fun, and a great beach read.

I received this book free from bBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review. At 5' 11", Thea Kozak is an unusually tall woman. She is also quite thin with very dark, curly hair. Actually, her entire family is tall and big-boned, with dark hair; except for her little sister, Carrie, who was adopted when Thea was 8 yrs old. Carrie is less than 5’ tall and has beautiful, curly, white-blond hair. Thea truly loved taking care of her little sister. While they were growing up, Carrie came to Thea for help with everything. Thea was like a second mother to Carrie. But that wasn’t enough for Carrie. She wanted to find her “real” family, her birth parents, wherever that search might take her. Sometimes we should just be glad for what we have and not push for more… Thea has always been the “take charge” person in the family…the one to handle the unpleasant tasks that no one else wanted. That is why, following Carrie's murder, Thea was left to handle all of the arrangements for her funeral. Detective Andre Lemieux, of the Maine State Police is in charge of Carrie’s case, but has been unable to solve the murder, or even find out much about Carrie and her habits. At this point, Thea decides to do some investigating on her own. Someone has to pay for what they did to her baby sister! Once again, Thea takes charge, but at what cost? Thea's character is a very well developed and makes you want to help her. Detective Andre Lemieux and Carrie are also developed before your eyes as you read the book. The book is well written with enough twists and turns to hold your attention. I found it hard to put the book down. I look forward to more books in the series.
