When I was young I read an excerpt from this book in a magazine. It was so thrilling and exciting that I begged my mom to buy me the book so that I could find out what else happened in the exhilarating life of Carlota. It turned out, that excerpt was the most exciting part, and the rest of the book was boring and disappointing. Oh well.
I haven't read any other of O'Dell's books, but i am sure i will love them after this!!! I couldn't put it down!
Carlota is the story of a bold and courageous teen who must learn to accept herself for who she is. And, who she is does not please her outspoken and ever-present grandmother. Carlota is not the soft-spoken, ribbons-and-lace girl many expect her to be. She rides her stallion like the wind, races with the men, and dives for gold in the sea. Historically realistic and full of action, Carlota is a fun, quick read.
