Fish and Game officer Butch Black has spent the last thirty-five years looking for a killer, a fairytale creature called the Prairie Monster. He is in search of the beast that attacked him and his best friend one summer night while they were out fishing. They were only twelve years old at the time of the attack, which killed his best friend Berry. It would haunt Butch until the day he came face to face with the demons of his past.

Butch finally gets the chance to make good on a graveside promise he made to his friend Berry, but it turned out to be different then what he had thought. Now he's praying to Berry for his forgiveness.

About the Author

My name is Calvin Niblack; I am a fifty year old father of nine children. My wife and I, and all of our kids still live in the great state of Kansas. I am most proud of my children. All of the older one's have graduated high school, and have gone on to seek a higher education, something that I was never able to accomplish as a young man.
My partner and love of my life took on a tremendous endeavor when she married me. When we married I was raising my six oldest children from another marriage on my own. I'm the first one to admit that I don't know if I could have taken on a relationship where the other person already had six children, but with the grace of God he sent me an angel. My angel and I have three children of our own, that's how we ended up with nine children in our home. We are truly blessed with lots of love and happiness in our lives.
Although I have lived out in the country most of my life, I was born and raised in Mid-Town Wichita, Kansas. Growing up surrounded by drugs and crime, I chose to be different. I wore a cowboy hat and boots, never tried drugs and never ever started smoking or chewing tobacco. I have always wanted to be different than everybody else I grew up around. I wouldn't trade my childhood with anyone's, but I couldn't wait to get out of the city. The city is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to raise my children living there.
I have worked at the same job for thirty years, and I find it very fulfilling. Don't get me wrong, work is work no matter how you look at it, so you might as well work somewhere that is rewarding, and satisfying. It's not a glamorous job, but it pays the bills.
One of our favorite things to do in Kansas is to go camping. When you're out camping, besides fishing, sitting around a campfire telling stories is the next best thing to do. Telling stories to my children has always been a part of growing up in our home. When I'm telling my kids a story, they never know whether it is true or one of my made up stories. My wife suggested that I try writing some of my stories down. That's how I ended up writing my first book, and I hope that the readers of my first story find it as entertaining as my children did.
