Overview

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In her bestselling Alpha and Omega series, Patricia Briggs "spins tales of werewolves, coyote shifters, and magic and, my, does she do it well" (USA Today Online). Now mated werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham face a threat like no other—one that lurks too close to home...

They are the wild and the broken. The werewolves too damaged to live safely among their own kind. For their own good, they have been exiled to the outskirts of Aspen Creek, Montana. Close enough to the Marrok's pack to have its support; far enough away to not cause any harm.

With their Alpha out of the country, Charles and Anna are on call when an SOS comes in from the fae mate of one such wildling. Heading into the mountainous wilderness, they interrupt the abduction of the wolf—but can't stop blood from being shed. Now Charles and Anna must use their skills—his as enforcer, hers as peacemaker—to track down the attackers, reopening a painful chapter in the past that springs from the darkest magic of the witchborn...

Absolutely adored this story, its like Mrs. Briggs' writing has leveled up. Great action and a bit of mystery that is so familiar to these stories, but it takes a back seat, it's a little bit slower for lack of better word, this story, imo, was more of a slice of life. Finally get to learn a bit more about Brans and Leah's mating, as well as learning about more characters a bit deeper. The end felt a bit rushed, like all the usual action got packed in and briefed, definitely have the feeling we are being set up for a very cool arc. Kinda short, but I try to be grateful for getting anything.

Another beautifully written episode in the Marrok's Pack shows how a hidden witch practicing Black Magic in their midst tests pack bonds and endangers Charles and Anna Cornick search for the traitor and save the Wildlings. Readers will enjoy Brigg's fast-paced action and surprising narrative twists in the continuation of the Alpha Omega series.

This book is both part of a series and able to stand on its own. If you have read the other books in the series then the reminders of the back story are just reminders. If you are starting here then you will have enough information to follow the story. The character development continues for Anna and Charles but also for other characters that you may not be as sympathetic for. I can't go into more detail here without giving away major plot points. If you are wanting to put this in the timeline of the entire set of books set in this world then it occurs about a week after Silence Fallen about Mercy Thompson Hautpman's kidnapping. If you are new to the works of Ms. Briggs I still think you will enjoy starting here. If not,it is a worthy addition to her works. With this book the timeline for the Alpha and Omega books and the Mercy books are about even.

This was not the "wonderful" book I waited so long for. It was a 3.7 star rating. The story was disjointed and made Bran to u nwolf like. (I mean really, can you see a wolf running around wringing it's hands , whining.) I really like this series, please get it back on track!!

These stories just keep getting better and better. I read it in roughly 6 hours over two days! Buckle up and get ready for a hell of a ride!

I think Anna's character was a great thing to add to her Mercy world. Lots of great info dropped in this book. Another 5 star, though if I could I would rate it higher.

It is sad to lose a character that you like, but treachery is like that.

So disappointed with this one. Poorly written, meandering story, retconning lore we already have, that one scene, and we just have run out of villains and twists. It started with Silence Fallen and is going down hill from there. In my opinion of course.

Briggs is an immensely talented writer and Burn Bright serves as another example of her master in storytelling. The Alpha and Omega Series are a must read for any already deep into the Mercy Thompson Series.

Being a diligent Briggs fan, I’ve been hoping this series would take off perfectly like the Mercy Thompson series. However it’s been lacking that exciting “Oompf”. Number 5 had one or two nice segments but the rest of the book was a lot of basic storytelling and character development. I expected a bit more from from this series since these were two very important people in Brigg’s werewolf world. Packed full of new info and stories mainly it wasn’t my favorite of the series but I hope it leads to a 6th installment with more drama, laughter, and mystery.
