When Baltimore Homicide Detective Lisa Swanson and her partner Dee Quarter are called to investigate the murder of Ernest Juarez, Lisa meets wheelchair bound Jake Jenson, a man determined to find his best friend's killer at all costs. Jake is instantly attracted to the standoffish Lisa yet can't understand why Lisa keeps him at arm's length.

What Jake feels is resistance toward him, is really Lisa's distrust of men caused by a previous relationship centered on domestic violence. Lisa desperately searches for Ernest's killer while fighting her feelings for Jake and trying to mend the pain from her past.

Jake just might be the man of Lisa's dreams, but will she let shame and fear stand in the way of a new love?

Short read, story could have been a lot better. Choppy read, characters could have been a bit more well rounded. Main characters were one dimensional.

A Baltimore detective investigates a homicide. The man who discovered the body is partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair. A story of wounded souls searching for healing. Recommend.

The premise was good. The male lead was an unlikable pest. Wheelchair bound or not, he was always underfoot, I an annoying way.

I don't know what was missing ,but I had to force myself to continue reading. It just didn't grab me. The characters are good, and so was the storyline. Mjw

It was an okay book, but not great.

I would have liked to see how the relationship developed between Lisa and Jake.

Too short. Don’t make the reader have buy another book to find out what happen with the characters. Develop the characters so the reader knows and care why there is so much angst in their lives. No suspense when a character dies and no surprise when the villains are revealed.

It was a good plot and romance but I'm left wanting more. Like there wasn't enough to make me satisfied.

The female Main Character has honestly pissed me off through some of the chapters and I hated how she dealt with so many things. To be honest she was being a “Drama Queen” the Male Main Character was honestly what kept me going through out the whole entire book, also trying to figure out who killed his best friend which you find out at the end of the book. Also “Dee” is a good friend to have around because to be honest I would have told “Lisa” that she needs to stop a long time ago. But I admit she has been through a lot and has trust issues, just how she dealt with it bother me. I would have rated the book 5 starts but instead I’ll give it a 4.5, I hated how it didn’t go more into their relationship with them getting to know each other more.

A lot of substance for a short story
