John Hollis is a reluctant warrior. After college, he decides to go to medical school. Pearl Harbor is attacked and the war changes everything. But not his love for the girl next door. Rather than be drafted to an uncertain fate he becomes an aviation cadet, He is assigned the command of a bomber in England and realizes he has gotten more than he bargained for. The reality of combat, its capricious brutality, the loneliness of unrequited love and the strangeness of the characters he meets must transform him or he will perish.
This is the story of complex emotions thrown into the crucible of a unique kind of war, alien to anything he had expected. He must find himself amid the chaos and tedium and seperation and become a warrior.

This was an excellent read.  I normally don't read this genre but I found the book to be very well written and engaging. I highly recommend it.
