Overview

Young readers will see what the Golden Rule looks like in action in this virtue-driven addition to the Living Lights™ series of Berenstain Bears books, featuring the ever-popular and beloved Berenstain Bears characters and artwork.

Should Sister Bear ignore the new girl at school just because her friends do? The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule shows children how choosing to be kind may not always be the easy choice. But it is always the right one.

The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule—part the popular Zonderkidz Living Lights series of books—is perfect for early readers, encourages reading out loud, and will spark important conversations about right and wrong. Best of all, it will be read again and again by children ages 4 to 8 as they learn for themselves how they can live out the important principle of the Golden Rule—“Treat others as you want to be treated”—in their own lives.

The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule:

  • Features the hand-drawn artwork of Mike Berenstain, the son of the creators of The Berenstain Bears, Stan and Jan Berenstain
  • Continues in the much-loved footsteps of Stan and Jan Berenstain with the Berenstain Bears series of books, which is approaching its 60th Anniversary
  • Is part of one of the bestselling children’s book series ever created, with more than 250 books published and nearly 300 million copies sold to date

About the Author

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

It's been years since I have read any of the adventures with the Berenstain Bears, but it was definitely a strong part of my earliest childhood that I have spare memories of. The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule is a winner in my opinion and a shelf keeper for every family.Sister Bear gets to learn more about that phrase she knows so well, but has never really considered. This classic is a wonderful learning tool for any child and I strongly recommend it. On the inside of the back cover is a reader's guide, which I do not remember as a child, but has great questions to further the learning and understanding of a reader. What a wonderful experience spending time with the Berenstain Bears is, I cannot wait for more!

Of course all the Berenstain Bears books have a great message, the format they used to transfer it to an ebook, however, is very poor. Small pictures, pages with the text out of a white box.

I bought this book for my two little boys ages four and three for Easter. I think it might be a little over their heads right now, but it's such an important message to get across and for them to understand that I plan on continuing to read it to them until it sinks in...and after. The characters, although bears, are relatable to people everyone is familiar with in their own lives and the story line is easy to grasp. It is about Sister Bear and her new locket so girls might relate better than boys, but the message is clear. I would recommend this book to anyone with children because if we all teach them to follow this rule, that would make for such a better world for them.

I love all of the Berenstain Bear books. We have tons of them for our library. There is always a purpose to the book... a lesson to be learned... I enjoy reading these books to my kids. The Golden rule especially because I am always telling my children that they should always treat others as they want to be treated. This book is a good way for your kids to learn how they should treat others.
