Sometimes you find love in the most unexpected of places...

This is not one of those times.

Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband... someday.

Sometimes you fall in love with exactly the person you think you should...

Or not.

There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying, and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.

But sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor...

Because when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begins to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can't abide is the one person they can't live without...

Julia Quinn can be depended on to deliver a good story. For those who are confused, this story happens before the other Bridgerton stories. I believe Billie is their Aunt and their father is at school.

I think this book was great! I have read all her novels and I have enjoyed every one. Another great read. Didn't want it to end. Hate that I have to wait for her next book! Write quickly please!!!!

This a is fun and humerous read. Billie's character is funny and witty. I fell in love with fun she has with Andrew and how she finds surprising love with George! I love all the trouble she is and found myself laughing though this book. I assume she is Aunt Billie to a someday Edmond & Voilet brood. Fun prequel since we never know much of Edmond other than from Violet and a little from Anthony's memories.

An engaging and entertaining read. While not her absolute best, reading it is great way to spend a spring day.

In this book, Julia Quinn, lacked the humor she once had in her earlier books, such as, HOW TO CATCH AN HERIESS, OR MINX. It lacked her way of original writing.

The book was okay. I was a little disappointed. I didn't think it was one of her best.

Humorous, fast read.

I enjoyed the book just like all the others I've read of hers. However I was disappointed with Billie's parents. Since reading all of the other books in the series I expected more from the secondary charaters. JQ didnt even bother to mention their first names. Which I guess makes sense because if they were the characters from "The Viscount Who Loved Me" they are complete opposite personality wise from that book.

A Cannily Penned, Sweet, & Slow-Burning Romance 3.5/4 Stars | Hot Steam Every new release from Julia Quinn is a cause for celebration. Her impeccably written novels, filled with glorious romance, adventure, and brilliant wit, never fail to entertain, inspire, and satisfy. And, while I’ve greatly anticipated each of her past novels’ debuts, my delirious excitement for BECAUSE OF MISS BRIDGERTON was uncontainable. I live for the Bridgertons. They are my all-time favorite fictional family. THE DUKE AND I, my very first Historical romance, spurned my utter devotion to the genre. So, when the divine Ms. Q announced that there would be more Bridgertons featured in a brand new series, I jumped for joy, set my expectations to the stratosphere and counted down the days until I could immerse myself in the dramas, delights, and desires of the next generation of Historical romance's most beloved and enduring dynasty. And, what fun it was! Enchanting, lively, and blissfully passionate, Billie and George’s adversaries-to-friends-to-lovers story is a cannily penned, sweet, and slow-burning affair that takes its time to build a meaningful foundation for the couple’s deepening connection, startling attraction, and fated love to thrive. Admittedly, I was skeptical at first as Billie seemed a tad immature for a grand romance. Young, isolated, tomboyish, wild, reckless, and impulsive—men aren’t on her radar. Her time and energy is wrapped up in taking thoughtful care of her family’s estate. But, as the novel progresses and she and George grow to appreciate, understand, and confide in one another, everything fundamentally shifts for her. Still as impulsive as ever, she steadily matures and approaches her awakening sexuality and budding feelings for George like she does everything else in her life—boldly, with spirit, zeal, abandon, and pure joy in the moment. And I loved her for it! Equally wonderful and perfect for Billie, I adored George so much. Having always frowned upon Billie’s britches and wildness, I loved his shocking realizations, again and again, as Billie, just by being herself, shakes him to his core with increasing lust and admiration. He begins to seek out and relish her unconventionality, strength, compassion, intelligence, drive, and dizzying beauty. The unkempt girl he’s known and dismissed his entire life is suddenly vital to his every breath and happiness. I loved reading his tantalizing POV as his rattling fascination with Billie turns into a red-blooded obsession. He has such riveting fire in him, and I couldn’t get enough! Sigh…I so enjoyed this romance! What a fabulous start to the Rokesbys series! I simply can’t wait for Billie & George’s charming, boisterous, and hilariously incorrigible siblings to each find their own unique happily ever afters too! I will say I read Andrew's book first not realizing I didn't read in order. I did like this book but not as much. I realize there is world building done in this story that takes time. Billie was a total tomboy and I loved it. Though her judgy behavior towards George drove me a bit nuts. George was a bit judgy as well but he let it go a little faster. I didn't start flying through the story until their camaraderie and banter took off. I think Billie forgave too fast and too easy after the ball. I felt George let a comment made by Billie that bothered him disappeared without asking her about it. I loved Andrew in this book and if I hadn't read his book first I would have been dying to read it. Now I need to dig into Edward's book so I can catch up completely with the prequels.

Billie is unique for her time! George is proof that love can move mountains Well Done! Wish we could have heard from the young Edmund but in time.

What a spoiled brat; how many negatives can I find to describe her? Petulant and, mannish, Billie is ready to fight over any perceived insult, which is to say, always. She could find insults in motes in the air. I do not understand the mindset of many romance writers who obviously believe boorishness in their heroines is amusing; was I supposed to be charmed by her antics? To illustrate, here’s a small excerpt: “ …she would still be the reckless Billie Bridgerton. Except that in a few years reckless would give way to eccentric. And after that it was all downhill to crazy.“ Too far-fetched to have me believe George, heir to an earldom, could find anything attractive in such a harridan or think she was suitable to be his countess. In their society, her ill-manners and outlandish behavior would reflect very badly on her family, but it seems no one can rein her in. Because this is fiction, they get a happily ever after.

This was a pretty fun read. The female lead is very outgoing for her time. She's not great at being girly and doing girl things. The male lead has been her friend since they were kids. Finally something clicks for them. It has amusing dialogue and entertaining scenes. Since this is connected to Bridgertons series, I think readers of that series will be more involved in the storyline. I have not read it so I didn't recognize all the characters, but that didn't distract me from liking the book.

This book was exactly what I thought it would be! Funny, charming, passionate, sweet and an all round fantastic read! I loved Billie and George together, their snippy bickering becoming playful once they start to really notice the other person. They have wonderful chemistry that you can feel building, and once they get together.. look out! When I realized this book takes place before all the other Bridgerton books, it added a nice little surprise of learning how the mallet if death got its name! Or at least I like to think it was how (I haven't read the other Bridgerton stories in a while so perhaps the next generation called it that for a different reason instead of the name being handed down so-to-speak.) Regardless, it's fun to read about the generation that came before the Bridgertons that I love. The secondary characters were great! I hope all the Rokesby boys get their own story. As always with Julia Quinn, I look forward to her next release!
