Barbara Gordon’s ready for a fresh start. She’s packing her bags, crossing the bridge, and heading to Gotham’s coolest neighborhood: Burnside. And when a freak fire burns up her costume and gear, Babs has the chance to become a whole new Batgirl!
But she barely slips on her new DIY costume before Batgirl starts trending as Gotham’s first viral vigilante — and attracting a new wave of enemies who want her social-media spotlight for themselves. Meanwhile, the girl beneath the gear’s got a whole new crew of friends, college classes that are kicking her Bat-butt and a dating scene that can make anyone want to swipe left on life.
This bat’s done living in the shadows. But will the bright lights of Burnside burn her for good?

Red-hot creative team Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr reinvent Barbara Gordon from the boots up in BATGIRL: THE BATGIRL OF BURNSIDE (collects issues #35-40 and a story from SECRET ORIGINS #10).

Oh, Batgirl-- you USED to be cool.... now you're just another annoyingly shallow hipster! Batgirl USED to be GENUINELY intelligent-- I mean, she used to be "Oracle", for God's sake, who was computer-SAVVY, NOT media "addicted"-- she knew how to scan, hack and control just about whatever online source she needed to use in order to help her other comrades fight crime, and she knew how to lead her "Birds of Prey" team with a wisdom and maturity beyond her years-- NOW, all she wants to do is "party" and "hang" with other annoying hipsters, and there's NOTHING mature or intelligent about the mindless way she's addicted to social-media (I mean, really, 'SELFIES"?! UGH!)-- there is NO way that THIS newly rebooted "Fratgirl" could've EVER led the Birds of Prey-- it would've interfered too much with her narcissistic social-media trolling and partying with her new "buds"! Nor is this the same Batgirl who would've earned the respect and admiration of the other tough-boys in the Bat-family-- she's so ridiculously immature now, even the arrogantly annoying juvenile delinquent-y Damian Wayne seems more mature by comparison! (and don't even get me started on her "rebooted" UGLY costume, losing the classic, more DIGNIFIED Batgirl look, instead of looking like a mannequin for a tween-girl's fashion boutique) DC's continuing baffling insistence on rebooting their classic characters to make them more "hip" and "contemporary" to the point of being completely unrecognizable is only continuing to alienate and repel all their long-time fan base-- keep it up, DC, and you'll take a massive nosedive in profits from driving away ALL your formerly-loyal fans! There's a REASON why these classic characters haves been popular for so long, because they were GOOD the way they were! Sadly, I am no longer going to be a fan of this new flaky, "Bat-Bimbo". Goodbye, "Babs"-- we'll miss the real you!

Babs Tarr is a rockstar! Love the story, but the art MAKES this comic.

Having studied English literature in college, I have been exposed before to work I've hated, but this is the first comic book in a while I've disliked to the point of not being able to finish it, and I did give it multiple chances. One of my literary pet peeves is when people feel the need to include pop and social media, not to enhance the story or help it to progress, but to look cool and modern. There are so man you things wrong with this, from the mention of thunderbolt vs USB to the weird social dating site and selfies to the very line about being invited to star in Kanye wests music video. If it was for story alone I would leave a one star, but for the third element , the artist actually knows how to draw in a very smooth and clean style whilst bringing character and life to their work. Unfortunately the writing destroys Barbara and turns her more into Barbie (I will take the killing joke any time) Such a horrific disappointment

KristiHulsey More than 1 year ago The first part is called Are You in the Black Book? This is my first Graphic Novel. This is a bit cheesy. But overall I like cheesy stuff. I LOVE DC Comics. Batgirl is a pretty good series so far. Are you in the black book was a great start to this book for me. Its broken up into different books I guess or parts all in one book. So volume 1 the first part is pretty good. I liked the storyline. I LOVE the pictures. Very good illustrations to me. Overall a great start to this book. The second story is called Bling Bling Thing. This one was a really good story in my opinion. I loved all the Glitter that "BatGirl" had on that costume. I love all the graphics of this novel. The illustrator did a really good job in my opinion. My favorite illustration was a full page of Batgirl in the glitter suit. It was just so beautiful. The writing is so cheesy but that is what makes it good. Because it is Batgirl. Batgirl is cheesy. I love it. The next one I dont know what it is called. The page has all the heroic things that Batgirl has done. But I really liked this one. It was different than the first 2 and it ended completely different. I loved the ending of this one. The world thinking Batgirl is bad. I like that. So very great story overall. The next one is called Batgirl Vs. Burnside. I was very intrigued by this title. This story ties into all the other stories. And concludes the graphic novel. Overall the story was ok. My favorite was the glittery batgirl. That part of the Bling Bling Thing series. It was the best one in my opinion. Would I ever read it again? Probably not. But it was interesting to go into that world. So I do recommend buying or reading graphic novels. Because I really liked the illustrations some of them were a bit cheesy. But they were still pretty good. 3 stars
