About the Author

Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, children's author, songwriter, producer, and director. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over sixty children's books and seven general audience books, including five New York Times bestsellers. More than 70 million of her books have been sold, "mostly to friends and family," she says. She has also written (with Michael Ford) and produced six albums of renegade children's music. Three of her albums have been certified Gold (over 500,000 copies sold), and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, has gone Platinum (over 1 million copies sold). Boynton has also directed twelve music videos of her songs, including the award-winning "One Shoe Blues" starring B.B. King, "Alligator Stroll" starring Josh Turner, and "Tyrannosaurus Funk" (animation) sung by Samuel L. Jackson. She lives in rural New England, and her studio is in a barn with perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

This book is more like a song. It's fun For the kids. Fun for story time. We have all Sandra Boynton's books. The illustrations are great. It says something about a book when a child looks up after you finish reading and says "Please read it one more time". Even when it is the 3rd or 4th time.

This book is so much fun. My 14 month old daughter loves books like this where she can imitate. Plus I have to admit, it's great fun for me as well. She's just so darn cute dancing around with her thirteen year old brother (he will do ANYTHING for baby sis) acting like the barnyard animals. I also recommend The Tickle Monster. Both books will have your kids giggling from beginning to end.

My 3-yr old granddaughter loves this book. She laughs and giggles with delight at the thought of barnyard animals dancing and cavorting around.

My mother-in-law had this book at her house and my five-month old son and I enjoyed it so much during our visit that we purchased a copy for our home. My nephew also has this book and it is one of his favorites too. I highly recommend this book because we absolutely love it!

This is a great book in rhyme with wonderful Boynton characters. My two year old granddaughter actually acts to the dance and can repeat a good portion of it by heart. We have so much fun with this book!

Very disappointed that I puchased this and could not read it on my Nook. Why offer it as a Nook Book then?

The Barnyard Dance invites the reader to participate! I am buying it for my 18 month grand-niece. It is a fun story for everyone in the family!

Both of my kids love this one! I find my self singing it rather then reading it to them, which only makes them enjoy it even more! We usually end up reading it two or more times!

The illustrations are so cute, and you can almost see the farm animals come to life and dance to the beat of the caller's voice :) Happy square dance beat and lively drawings. The only thing that would've made this better is if they'd added a little music (even just a violin) in the background. Still 5 well-deserved stars!

This is one of the every night and or daytime books of our 21 month old grand daughter, she asks for it by calling for the dance. The rhymes and rhythm make it so much fun to read over and over. The characters are great and since it involves animals, kids just love it. We already own 2 copies.

This one is great for babies and toddlers, and even slightly older kids can get into it. It's one of the ones I really wish existed as a non-board book! The illustrations are cute, the text is simple and catchy - what more do you want?

Stomp your feet! Clap your hands! Everybody ready for a barnyard dance! This is just great read-aloud fun and was one of my youngest son's first "favorite" books - even when he was too young for it, he liked to hold it and look at it. Also, if you're familiar with the Turkey from "Red Hat, Green Hat" - my two-year-old likes to point him out in this book and say "Oops!"

fun "sing-song" book about farm animals. has a do-si-do type of song to the writing. Kids will love the song and want to sing and dance to the story.

Boynton, S. (1993). Barnyard dance! New York: Workman Publishing.Age: 1 to 3 years oldIt is party time at the farm. The animals come together to take part in the barnyard dance. From the chickens to the pigs, from the horses to the sheep, the animals get together to follow the steps called by a violinist cow. It is square dance animal style, and everyone is having a good time. Barnyard dance! has the rhythm of square dancing with the added charm that all participants are cuddly farm creatures. When read aloud, the text sounds like a square dance caller addressing his audience. Rhymes such as ¿With a BAA and a MOO and a COCKADOODLEDOO / everybody promenade two by two!¿ remind us that this is a very special dance. The text works with the whacky and fun illustrations describing what happens in each drawing. This is a book to be read aloud many, many times.

This is a delightful board book in which the farm animals gather for a dance, composed in the rhythmic nature of a square dance. It is sure to amuse and entertain two year-olds to the point of giddiness.

FUN to read. Sing-songy and rhythmic like all Boynton books. Evie rocks back-forth on the sound of the opening page.

One of our favourite Boynton board books. The simple clear and cheerful drawings are great for toddlers. The rhythmic rhyming text is fun to read aloud, and older children can do the actions to the barn dance. We read this so often we had it memorized, and we got the kids to dance to it. A winner!
