Throughout the years that she has lived and worked in East Hampton, Ina Garten has catered and attended countless parties and dinners. She will be the first to tell you, though, that nothing beats a cozy dinner, surrounded by the people you love most, in the comfort that only your own home can provide. In Barefoot Contessa at Home, Ina shares her life in East Hampton, the recipes she loves, and her secrets to making guests feel welcome and comfortable.

For Ina, it’s friends and family–gathered around the dinner table or cooking with her in the kitchen–that really make her house feel like home. Here Ina offers the tried-and-true recipes that she makes over and over again because they’re easy, they work, and they’re universally loved. For a leisurely Sunday breakfast, she has Easy Cheese Danishes or Breakfast Fruit Crunch to serve with the perfect Spicy Bloody Mary. For lunch, she has classics with a twist, such as Tomato, Mozzarella, and Pesto Paninis and Old-Fashioned Potato Salad, which are simply delicious. Then there are Ina’s homey dinners–from her own version of loin of pork stuffed with sautéed fennel to the exotic flavors of Eli’s Asian Salmon. And since Ina knows no one ever forgets what you serve for dessert, she includes recipes for outrageously luscious sweets like Peach and Blueberry Crumble, Pumpkin Mousse Parfait, and Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Icing.

Ina also lets readers in on her time-tested secrets for cooking and entertaining. Get the inside scoop on everything from what Ina considers when she’s designing a kitchen to menu-planning basics and how to make a dinner party fun (here’s a hint: it doesn’ t involve making complicated food!).

Along with beautiful photographs of Ina’s dishes, her home, and the East Hampton she loves, this book is filled with signature recipes that strike the perfect balance between elegance and casual comfort. With her most indispensable collection yet, Ina Garten proves beyond a shadow of doubt that there truly is no place like home.

Well, she's cooked up another classic cookbook again. This time the theme of the book is food you serve at home- not in your house. The book starts out by defining what a home is to her- and to tell you the truth, it sounds a bit like mine: it's not perfect by any means, and is, in fact, a bit cluttered. Cluttered not so much in a messy way, but rather with personal items which ultimately are responsible for making the house into a home.

And so it is with her delicious recipes. Laid out in different sections such as dinner, soups, etc., each section is prefaced by several pages of interesting info on a selected food or food preparation topic.

A very down-to-earth cookbook, it is laid out well, has great pictures, and you'll even notice that the pages have a thick, smooth feel to them. Also suggest The Sixty-Second Motivator if you have trouble sticking to a healthy diet.

The recipes are so fresh and delicious. Really like how the author will re-create recipes that she has tried elsewhere and manages to keep the number of ingredients manageable. None of the recipes are very complicated to make but the end results are amazing. This would be an excellent gift for a bridal shower or housewarming gift. I intend to add all of the Barefoot Contessa cookbooks to my collections for both of my homes. Love the photos of each recipe and my dish looks just like it when I am done! How many times have you tried to make a new recipe and it never turns out how it looks in the picture? Would highly recommend this series of cookbooks.

Ina is as always the the best at making simple food look and taste great. The book is a warm and friendly cookbook ready to put any level of chef at ease. The recipes are artfully done using normal what you may have in the larder ingredients. I highly recommend Anna's orange marmalade. It is a two day process but so wonderfully elegant in taste. After you make the marmalade make yourself some Honey White bread to go along with it. It truly is a good white bread. Cooking with Ina is like having your best friend in the kitchen with you.

The recipes are always reliable and EASY. Everything is delicious. The photos are beautiful and directions perfect. It's great that the index for all the books is on her website.

Love her potato salad! I give this 4 stars because I was hoping for more meals in this cookbook, but there were only a few. Still, the photos are fabulous, and this is a must keep!

I have made the chicken salad veronique recipe many times from this book. It's very good for parties and is even better with my own addition of dried cranberries and pecans. The orange-honey glazed carrots are also out of this world. I have been making a very similar recipe from Martha Stewart for years. A great way to get the kids to eat the veggies when they taste like candy. Aside from the potato salad and maybe the chicken piccata (though I already have a million recipes for that) there isn't anything else in the book I would really make. I cook primarily for the immediate family and they aren't clamoring for things like duck, blue and goat cheese, cornish hens, and roasted peppers. The family likes their lasagna with pasta not portobello mushrooms, thank you very much. There is also more than one recipe for lobster. I am sure Ina can afford it. Have you priced lobster these days? Yikes!, not on our everyday budget. This is definitely a foodie gourmet book. As an aside I was very disappointed to find out that Ina turned down the make a wish foundation. They should have asked Giada. I recently saw her in person and she was every bit as nice in person as she seems on TV. I will not be purchasing from Ina in the future.

The seared tuna with mango chutney is wonderful...also the chicken breasts stuffed with goat cheese and fresh basil is divine.

Another great cookbook from Ina. The recipe directions are easy to follow, the pictures show you what the dish will look like, the food is delicious and her written notes create a nice, cozy atmosphere.

Unfortunately, I am unable to review this book because, YET AGAIN, the lousy handling/packaging by B&N resulted in ALL the books in my order to arrive so damaged that I had to return them...These were meant as Christmas gifts, too, so, Thanks loads, B&N!!! Once again I BEG, I PLEAD, follow Amazon's model of vacu-sealing the items onto a piece of cardboard sized to the interior of the box. Just as cheap as tossing a bunch of ineffective airbags and 100% more secure!!! :(

The fact that almost every recipe received perfect scores confirms what I already knew: Ina Garten's cookbooks belong in everyone's kitchen. Granted this cookbook is heavy on the desserts section and some of the recipes might be considered a little too basic for more seasoned chefs, but for a new cook wanting to stretch their culinary muscles this book is perfect! It provides you with delicious, good solid comfort food without being pretentious. I also like how at the back of the book she includes a number of menu ideas, an addition which many people will no doubt find inspiring when putting together a dinner party.
