Awesome Man can shoot positronic rays out of his eyeballs, fly as straight as an arrow, and hug mutant Jell-O! Even villains like Professor Von Evil and the Flaming Eyeball are no match for this caped crusader.

But Awesome Man also has a secret. . . . Can you guess what it is?

The first picture book from Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon perfectly captures the fantasy life of young superhero fans.

A great gift for the superhero obsessed, this book also models for kids a fun way to deal with their emotions—by being positronic!

It is pricey, yet the read and play book has the kids, and myself, laughing and enjoying this together. What more can I ask?! I wonder if there will be another or if this is the only book about Awesome Man! I have a preschooler and a grade schooler - they both like the colors, the words and think it is fun.

The story is great, the animation is "super!" I love that Chabon has taken superheroes to the most ridiculous extreme. Buy it, it's worth every penny.

I like Chabon's work and it was fun to stroll through the kids section as I often do and see this! I purchased for the Nook, and it's an enjoyable (though wordy) kids book. Nothing groundbreaking, but taps into the psyche of a boy at play really well.

My son absolutely loves this book (AGE 2). He won't let me tuck him in at night without reading it at least once. The activities on the play feature are great as well as there is a decent variety from one activity to the next. I highly recommend this book to spend some quality time with your son or daughter, especially if they are into super heroes!

My 4 yr old grandson loves this book. So much so that he has practically memorized the story. This turned out to be a great birthday present!

I bought this book for my four year old son and he loves it. It is his favorite bedtime story. This book has a wonderfully positive message for children and it is quite funny. The inneraction is great. I wish the author would write follow up books for the children to enjoy.

¿I can fly as high as a satellite and as straight as an arrow or through the time barrier and not get dizzy, or feel nauseous, or smash into things¿except on purpose. When you are a superhero like me, sometimes you have to smash into things.¿Awesome Man is very powerful. He can fight bad guys. He can shoot positronic rays out of his eyeballs. He is superstrong. But he must be careful that he doesn¿t let his powers go down and be too weak to fight bad guys. Luckily, his dog can bring him food and his energy will be renewed. The story of a superhero that every kid will love.

Having the appearance of a typical 1950s comic superhero, Awesome Man battles not only bad guys but his anger issues as well. Awesome Man's true identity is revealed at the end, though hints throughout the story give away that he is just a normal little boy. The mixed-media illustrations have a modern feel though the dotted background is a throwback to old newspaper comics. The action packed story will appeal to children and parents or teachers may find it appropriate to start a discussion on anger management. This story may also be good for lessons on predicting. A sure hit for children who enjoy superheroes and wish that they could be one too. Recommended grade level: K-2.

After reading the book with my grandson, all he said was, "I didn't like the book. They said the word 'awesome' too much!" My grandson is 6 but he enjoys shared reading of Magic Tree House series. This is for a much younger audience.
