Overview

Eddie Little's debut novel traces the outlaw life of a young Irish American. A teenage speed freak and petty thief, Bobbie and his Puerto Rican girlfriend, Rosie, are taken under the wing of an all-round criminal opportunist named Mel, who is old enough to be Bobbie's father, and Mel's girlfriend, Syd. Bobbie's chance to get back on his feet begins as the inside man in a pharmaceutical company break-in. The ensuing crime spree takes the foursome across the Midwest and California of the early '70s - and deeper into the dark world of heroin addiction.

This book shows the pain of the outlaw world. It pulls the mask of glamor right off and shows its true face, scars, tears and all. A truely moving book. I am looking forward to more from Eddie Little.

If you are a fan of Hunter S Thompson or any other Gonzo Writers you'll love this book. It's not just a book about drugs, sex, and crime. It's about the American dream as Eddie Little lived it. Reading this book you know it's a very peronal story- from the research I've done Eddie Little- and ex con, herion addict and professional theif, simply changed the names of the characters and wrote his personal story like a true Gonzo writer. It's an excellent book and a rush to read. You won't be able to put it down. Finally, Eddie Little isn't seeking sympathy or any particular reaction, he is simply telling the story of his life as he lived it, laced with a great dry wit. Quotes: "The American dream in person -- hustling, stealing to steal; blowing the cash as fast as I could get it; shooting speed 'til my nose bled, 'til my eyes crossed -- ether fumes rolling out of my lungs like clouds of toxic waste." "There's a line in the book: I perceive myself as like a little dope fiend Robin Hood,"

Being a 'client' of Methadone Maintenance Treatment myself, this story came close to describing myself and other 'clients'.When you surrender yourself to the world of drugs, you also give up the ability to directly relate to the world. This book exemplifies how quickly your senses are jaded and your emotions are dulled while immersed in an opiate-filled reality. You'll notice in the beginning, there are still somewhat straight lines dictating the rules of life.By the end, those lines are blurred and you have to question what's real and what's a dream.Little effectively shows the reader how quickly safety can be lost and relationships severed.I wish there were more like it.
