The #1 New York Times bestselling memoir of U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle, and the source for Clint Eastwood’s blockbuster movie which was nominated for six academy awards, including best picture.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. His fellow American warriors, whom he protected with deadly precision from rooftops and stealth positions during the Iraq War, called him “The Legend”; meanwhile, the enemy feared him so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle, who was tragically killed in 2013, writes honestly about the pain of war—including the deaths of two close SEAL teammates—and in moving first-person passages throughout, his wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their family, as well as on Chris. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.

It was interesting to read about Chris Kyle's early life and how it shaped his values, and then to learn about what it took to become a Navy SEAL. It gave me a much greater appreciation for what it takes to reach that level of service to our country. I found the description of his difficult transition from Warrior to Family Man and Resource to our returning troops to be an incredible journey. It would have been an honor to have met him had I been given that opportunity.

If you ever wanted to know the mindset of our soldiers, their courage and how they see patriotism as a part of who they are: (isn't everyone)? This is a touching, feelings filled book of the life of the courageous men and women that put their lives on the line, so that we remain, the home of the strong and the free. Now matter how you feel about the politics of war, you must read this to understand it's not all political, there are men and women dying for us. This book gives a shout out and a salute to all of them. God Bless Them.

I have read hundreds of military history books from across the world. This is one of the most touching and thought provoking ones I have read. Chris Kyle was a great man and a great warrior, he always put his humanity first, however. I CANNOT recommend this highly enough. All of the Kyle family proceeds go to veterans charities and help to continue the work he started.

Entertaining and educational. Chris Kyle is a true American Hero

The lack of format and structure of an elegantly written soliloquy is ferociously drowned by the quality of the content of the great American tale. Chris Kyle, simultaneously the bringer of death and redemption for a seemingly hopeless middle east, relays a warning to would be terrorist factions throughout the world, 1 of me is worth a hell of a lot of you. God Bless America and God Bless Chris Kyle.

Once I began reading "American Sniper" I could not put it down. It's an amazing book and would highly recommend it to anyone aspiring to become a Seal, sniper, or anyone just wanting to get a flavor of what it's like to be with an elite group of fighting men. Fantastic!

A true story about a true hero. But be sure to remember that it takes a man who has to see a definite line between right and wrong to think the way a person in his occupation has to think..... he tells it like it is and doesn't tip toe around what his experiences were. I can't wait to see the movie. Prayers to his family.

With all the hype about the movie, (I haven't seen it yet because of the rating. I know, sounds silly, but I try to avoid R-rated movies.) I wanted to see what everyone was talking about. This book by Chris Kyle is an amazing biography that puts into perspective, if just a tiny bit, what our military personnel and their families go through. Coming from a family with a long history of military service, this book gave me an insight to the 'other' side. The side most don't like to talk about. It's hard to read this and not feel indebted. This book is full of hard truths, yet we see the human side of the faceless people who defend our freedom with all they have. I loved his courage, I loved his humanity, I loved his dedication to his God and country. We need a few more like him! I'm not one to read autobiographies, but this one is a must!  God Bless!

This is a better than Excellant book.  Chris describes the true life of today's soldier.  It's a book about war, feelings, family, and the life of all soldiers.  Those who have never server, don't have a clue how much freedom costs or what our soldiers do for us to live a life of freedom.  This book explains that.  The movie was excellant, the book goes beyond that.  I read it in one sitting and will read it again.

EXCELLENT!!! WELL WRITTEN. A TRUE PATRIOT. Chris Kyle went beyond to protect our troops. This is not about killing to kill. This is about killing those who would not hesitate to kill you and every American they could. CHRIS KYLE is A HERO!!! as are all the soldiers who fight on behalf of our country. The book will hopefully make you appreciate what our soldiers endure while at war and when at home. GOD BLESS CHRIS KYLE AND ALL THE GOOD SOLDIERS WHO SACRIFICE MUCH FOR THE REST OF US. We need more men and women like Chris Kyle that love this country enough to make sacrifices for it. Would you? To those ignorant people who don't like that we have soldiers willing to fight for our country and keep it safe from terrorists of all kinds, then I say why don't they get the H-LL out of America and leave it for those of us that love it!!! Thank God we had soldiers willing to fight in World War II. Those days the American public at home made all kinds of sacrifices while our soldiers were fighting. It seems like today many here don't want to make sacrifices like our soldiers make everyday. Would the ignorant people who complain about our soldiers preferred we just let Hitler take over or do they now prefer the terrorists to take over?

Great story of a true hero. Couldn't put it down.

I've heard a lot of ugly condemnation of Chris by the media and other zealots out there, and I think they want to live in a bubble. War is war. People die. Our boys don't go over there to have conversation, they are over there trying to protect the objective and themselves. I have friends and family that have fought and this book helped me to get a feel of what they actually go through over there. The suffering, the accomplishments and knowing that human lives are ended by their actions. It's got to be very difficult and I've seen it in the eyes of those that return from these wars. Bless them and I ask God to protect our soldiers. And I thank them for protecting us, and offering the ultimate sacrifice for their service.

One of the better books I have ever read.  I'm not sure how anyone can write a bad review about this book.   It is well written and tells a great story about the war on terror and how one man among many made a difference.  RIP Chris Kyle and thank you and to all others who have served for protecting our freedoms!

I bought both.

The book American Sniper was often hard to read but impossible to put down. It was amazing to me that this man could kill the "savages" so easily in Iraq and other Arab countries. I believe he was a Christian and is now with Christ, even though he was responsible for so many deaths. But he was a warrior in war time and trained to kill by our country. The Bible says God hates war and the story in American Sniper definitely shows why.

I really enjoyed this book because Kyle was in Special Operations which is where I am headed so it is cool reading about another's experiences even though they may be in a different Spec Ops job then me.

A very worth while read. I think it was better than the movie, although it was great, and a very easy read. would recommend it to anyone who is a history buff, or wants a really good read. Take your time reading it so you don't miss the nuances in the story telling.
