Hathaway House: Aaron (Book 1)Welcome to Hathaway House, a heartwarming military romance series from USA TODAY best-selling author Dale Mayer. Here you'll meet a whole new group of friends, along with a few favorite characters from Heroes for Hire. Instead of action, you'll find emotion. Instead of suspense, you'll find healing. Instead of romance, ... oh, wait. ... There is romance-of course!Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.Former Navy SEAL Aaron Hammond has no idea how he wound up at Hathaway House, Texas. Nor does he particularly care. All he can see is his anger. Anger at the betrayal that destroyed his physical body and at the loss of the future he wanted but that he'll never have now. He's a cripple, less than half a man, and all he can look forward to is a half life, alone with himself and his pain.Dani Hathaway runs Hathaway House with her father, an ex-military man nicknamed the Major, and she knew Aaron and his brother SEAL Levi in another life. Levi was a good friend to her through her difficult teen years, but it was Aaron who caught her eye more than a decade ago. When she heard what happened to him, she moved heaven and earth to get him to Hathaway House, where she could help him regain his health and return him to the man he used to be.Old feelings resurface as Dani continues to push Aaron to acknowledge that his life is not over, and that, if he chooses, he can find both love and a future at Hathaway House.

Wow! So much emotion packed into this wonderful story! Another fabulous series by this amazing author. A full spectrum rehab center that focuses on moving forward for humans and animals alike. This is a unique concept combined with the sweetest love story that keeps you engaged in every page. You get swept up in Aaron’s emotional and physical obstacles that are preventing him from taking that first step forward towards healing and living his life as it is now. It really does take a village sometimes to help someone see a different perspective and be able to accomplish a positive attitude to succeed in life. Dani and her team are that village for Aaron. I love how this story includes characters from the author’s other series, it’s a comfortable blending for the details and back story. I also was excited to see how animals are used as part of an individual’s therapy process to help them gain comfort and confidence without human judgment. It is refreshing to see that the animals receive the same attention, therapy and comfort too. I loved this story, very heartwarming and satisfying. It packs an emotional punch that leaves you smiling and is a joy to read!

When Aaron arrives at Hathaway House, George tells him “Welcome. Right now you hate it. You want to be anywhere else but here. However, in a couple weeks, you’ll never want to be anywhere else.” This begins Aaron's journey to recovery. Aaron has to overcome his physical and mental trauma. The Navy doesn't believe his story and believes he is at fault for the explosion that killed 2 members of his team. Aaron has to learn that help is not the same as charity, and accepting help is what he needs to heal. While recovering Aaron also needs to figure out what he wants to do with the next chapter of his life. If you’re familiar with the Heroes for Hire series, there is an appearance from Levi who is Aaron's half-brother. Levi helps to find proof his brother has been telling the truth. Aaron had known Dani since he was a kid, but didn't think she even noticed him. Now they get to know each other and rekindle the chemistry from years ago. At the end of the book it’s Aaron telling the new arrival “Welcome. Right now you hate it. You want to be anywhere else but here. However, in a couple weeks, you’ll never want to be anywhere else.” I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Aaron by Dale Mayer Hathaway House Series Book One Aaron Hammond needed a change. He wasn't moving forward from his war injuries. After throwing a fit about getting transferred, he found himself at Hathaway House. A new rehab. Another chance at healing. Dani Hathaway and her father had started Hathaway House after her father was injured in the military. A place to help men heal...and animals. Their veterinary clinic gave animals a second chance and it also helped encourage their human patients. Aaron and Dani had known each other over a decade ago. His older brother, Levi, had been Dani's best friend. Now Dani has to keep secrets from Aaron—a man who'd been betrayed in a big way. This is more than a romance as Aaron needs not only to heal physically—but also emotionally. **Language (minor language and one f-bomb)

This is a new series for Dale Mayer. It is as always a marvelous book. Aaron war hero meets back up with his well secret crush. However, it isn't all roses and sunshine. He was blown up by a bomb lost a leg and it was his best friend who did it. Of course, no one believes him because they think Cain was dead and at Aarons hands along with several other Seals. Dani his secret crush just happens to be the person running the center for veterans with physical disabilities that need extra help. Dani wants nothing but to help him and Aaron wants no charity and refuses to accept any help whatsoever. I cannot say too much more without doing a complete spoiler and I try so very hard to keep that from happening. This is a really nice romance book that will make you want to cry laugh and smile. Hathaway House -- a specialized place geared to help the wounded veteran recover and heal from injuries of the body and soul. A place which also helps abused and injured animals heal and find trust. Aaron is a SEAL who was injured on duty and now the healing process is slow, the anger deep seated, his focus clouded. Dani is a friend from his past, his past which includes his brother Levi. Through the determination of Dani and members of the Hathaway House staff, and through the magic of the animals, Aaron learns to release and to look forward. A powerful book, a book for all ages. I thought the K9 Files series was great (cheering out loud series), Heroes for Hire and SEALS of Honor were major page turners, but this is a wonderfully unique series and one I look eagerly for the next installment. Bravo, Dale Mayer! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I know that I am going to love this series, it is much gentler but still has the angst of Dale's other military books. It is set in a very sympathetic but hard pushing successful rehabilitation centre, it is used mainly for badly injured military personnel who need to rebuild their lives. Aaron feels angry, more angry than most because the blame for an explosion that devastated his team and cost him a leg was done by his best friend who had turned traitor for money......no one believed Aaron's version because his friend disappeared. Aaron had known Dani, who with her father, ran the sanctuary, since they were younger and he had always carried a torch for her. There is a nurturing romance, arguments, break downs and intrigue, it gives a really good insight into the physical and mental battles that military personnel have to face in the quest to start a new and different life. As usual Dale has done in depth research into this subject. Although it is a standalone book various old friends from previous books are introduced. Looking forward to the next book in the series I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A contemporary romance and the beginning of yet another series. How fun is this? It is actually great because it's full of wonderful people and how they face life, help others and survive. Some betrayal but solved. Some romance, nicely done. Along with honesty, integrity and loyalty which we have come to know and love with this author. A comfortable enjoyable story that I'll read it again. Well done!
