This is absolutely a great book!!! I always wondered from reading The Land of Stories series what the characters of the fairy councel were like as kids including mother goose and fairy godmother. Plus mother goose and fairy godmothers names. It all makes sense now. One thing I want to know is if the academy palace became the fairy palace. I cannot wait for the next book!!!

Very good book . If you read the Land of Stories series you are going to recognize some characters in this book as well. Nice job Chris to transport us back to the Northern and Southern Kingdoms.

Great book, wonderfully written with themes that resonate with current events. Strongly recommend parents reading the book with their children of any age to help each other learn more about the world we live in and how we can make it a better world. The plus side to the possibilities of obtaining a deeper understanding of human kind is a book with the imagination and wonder that can stay alive in youth even while their world may not make sense. Love finally getting the backstory to some of the greatest characters. The plot moves quickly and the book provides plenty of times to laugh, feel the joy, cry at the injustice and heartache and still end on a note that lifts the reader up with a dedication to understanding the good and evil in all of us. Oh, BTW, I am not the typical age reader. I don't think I can even remember what I was like at 14 except I think that was the year I was sporting a rainbow colored liberty spike mohawk.

A great book for someone who likes unicorns, butterflies, and fairies. The heroine, Brystal, is a fourteen-year-old girl who loves books. The action never slows down. The early plot seems a bit too predictable to me--young girl who has never fit in at home turns out to be destined for greatness. She gets swept away to a magical school. However, the ending has a great twist that I didn't see coming. The book's messages of believing in yourself, trusting your own talents, and having compassion for others are fine, but can seem a bit heavy-handed at times. I really liked the Lucy character; she's a student whose magic works, but never quite the way it was intended to. She's also good at keeping things interesting and breaking rules when necessary.
