Once again DCI Lorimer is chasing down a murderer in Glasgow, Scotland, with the help of his friend, Psychologist Solomon Brightman. A young prostitute is strangled and left in the subway in an interesting pose, with a red carnation in her downward praying hands. Then a young nurse is murdered in a private clinic, posed in the same way. When more deaths happen, Lorimer and Brightman must consider the possibility of a serial murderer. But something strange confuses the situation. This is the second book in this series, but it started out considerable slower than the excellent first book, NEVER SOMEWHERE ELSE. Had I not read the first book, I might not have continued on after the first couple of chapters. It did pick up considerably after the first half, and I definitely got into the mystery. Plan to read book three and decide which book best represents this author. Loved the relationships in book one, and the characters definitely developed further here. Here's hoping book one is the best example of Alex Gray's writing ability!
