Overview

With the blissfully beautiful A Day Without Rain -- Enya's first album after a nearly five-year drought -- the entrancing Celtic chanteuse builds on the uniquely melodic, ethereal groove that she conceived with 1988's chartbusting Watermark. A passionate perfectionist as well as a gifted melodicist, Enya wraps her signature velvet vocals in glistening, lusher-than-life productions. In these 11 songs, her legendary voice meshes with gorgeous orchestral soundscapes, pizzicato synth strings, and carefree, springy rhythmic currents. As on previous albums, the lyrics by longtime Enya collaborator Roma Ryan dwell just on the edge of comprehension -- an affect that adds to the otherwordly mystique of the music. Delicate piano deposits a languid melody on the title track, as Enya's multilayered vocals harmonize like a choir of swooning angels. On "Wild Child" Enya builds a wall of jaunty plucked strings while singing about enjoying life with the spirit of untamed youth. In contrast, however, the ominous "Tempus Vernum" stalks purposefully with pounding timpani, coming-to-get-you gongs, and looming chanters. Like a Gaelic benediction, "Deora Ar Mo Chroi" immediately follows with airy clouds of angelic vocals and soft orchestral drones for Enya to float upon. And you'll hardly be able to resist the impulse to skip across the meadow, flower basket in hand, to the buoyant, slow-motion sway of strings and Enya's carefree vocalise on "Flora's Secret." The whole program is short but rich, and these are some of Enya's strongest melodies yet. So drink it all in, Enya fans, and rejoice at the return of one of the most alluring voices on the planet.

Enya has a truly beautiful voice. It is so mystifying, so graceful, so hauntingly pretty. I heard it on TV once when they played sad scenes from the 911 tragedy, but when you're feeling happy, it suits your mood perfectly too. I love this CD, and I listen to it practically 10 times a day. My favorites are ''A Day Without Rain'' and ''Only Time''.

I have been a fan of Enya's music since I was little & I have all of her other cd's also. I thought this cd was very good, but I was disappointed at the length of the songs. Some of them are rather short; plus there are only 11 tracks, I think she could have put some more tracks on this album. Or at least make her songs longer. Don't get me wrong the album was great, I just wish she would make it a little longer, I look forward to her next album:)

enya, the elusive celtic songbird, has released another new age melodic masterpiece...nearly. while occasional listeners and die-hard enya followers alike will enjoy the eclectic mix of uplifting and mood enhancing songs, one cannot help but wonder if enya has hit a plateau in her level of experimentation and creativity. many of the compositions contain familiar notes and segments from some of her past pieces. i am not sure if this was coincidental or just a reflection of her inability to move beyond a certain musical spectrum...either way, as with all of enya's albums, ''a day without rain'' is a very very pleasant journey. i highly recommend it to those of you without expectations of a shift in style or a new feat of creativity. honestly, it is good to have her back after such a long sebatical.

The tracks are pure delight, so uniquely Enya. I have never tired of any of her music and anticipate replaying these new songs with unwavering delight. The style is the same as prior CD's; I don't see any new ground being broken. But that doesn't matter. The tracks are truly uplifting, soul-stirring, and always something to look forward to at the end of a hectic day. Thanks Enya.

This new album contains no new territory -- but then, maybe this is what Enya listeners need. But if that is the case, why not put out a same-sound record every one or two years to bulk up the music library of die-hard fans?

The cut Only Time will carry Enya on and her fans until there is no longer time. This song will never go out of style or class.

This album is so awesome! It features two of her best known songs, Wild Child, and Only Time, but all the others are equally as good!! I have it in my car right now! I only own 2 of her albums but am ready to buy all of them! It's just the best...5 stars isn't enough!!

This album is wonderful, I have listened to it over and over again several times. I have also listened to her other albums over and over again....can not get tired of them. Her songs can relate to anything that is going on in your life. :) If you are the type of person who loves natural beauty and sound and can allow yourself to feel very peaceful at times, this is the type of music to listen too.:))))))))))))))))))))))

I have a prerelease version of this CD. It accomplishes nothing new. It would be nice if she'd try to expand her boundaries. Just save yourself the $$ & listen to her other CDs.

A great CD from a great artist. I see more success in her future.

This album is, like all of Enya's albums, beautiful to listen to, but the lyrics are rather disappointing. They lack depth. They are nothing more than silly rhymes (see track 11, lazy days). If they have any actual meaning, it is not obvious to the listener, which somewhat defeats the purpose. I will push aside my disappointment in the hopes that any music Enya might release in the future will be better. And you should still listen to the album...the title track is very pretty!

I'm really glad I didn't listen to those ''critics'' that stated they didn't care for this cd. I almost didn't buy it! But I am very happy I did. I hope she never changes her style, for that is what makes her Enya. I only wish it was longer! I am going to spend many hours listening to this!

Ever since I first heard Enya I fell in love with her music. This CD gives you everything that you would ever want from her. The whole CD has wonderfully made tracks that really bring you into her music. I definitely give this CD a five star rating, this is a must buy!!

Enya's vocals are gorgeous as ever -- this is one disc that will absolutely envelop you in its lush mood. It's been too long since Shepherd Moons. It's wonderful to have you back, Enya!
