4.5 points. The best of the three stories. Ronni and Jared were a great couple. Hope we have more books that include this family.

Loved it

Loved how Jared didn’t know what hit him when he agreed to mate Ronnie to save her life. I love the great wit and banter in the Reese brothers novellas. Great chemistry and some smokin hot sex!

Ronnie has been poisoned and is on her deathbed when Jared offers her a choice, mate with him and become immortal, or die. Almost reluctantly, she accepts his offer. Jared Reese, a vampire who is over 400 years and an ex-pirate, never intended to mate. When his new sister-in-law wants him to save her best friend, he sees it as a way to be closer to his brother. He plans to mate, save her life, and then go on his merry way. Except after one night he wants more than a mating of convenience. But Ronnie believes he plans to just walk away and she is focusing on finding out who tried to murder her. Jared is intent on protecting her but she is ignoring him. It was fun to watch the power struggle between these two as Jared is frustrated by Ronnie placing herself in danger and Ronnie is chaffing under Jared’s overly protective nature. Plus Ronnie thinks Jared is just going to leave her and he has to convince her that he is there to stay.

This little novella had a heck of a power struggle between the hero and heroine. More so than any other couple in this series. More importantly, how was he going to keep a mate safe who didn’t want to be kept safe? While I didn’t enjoy the other woman drama, I did enjoy the fact that no matter how hard Jared worked to isolate and protect Veronica, she was going to do what needed to be done. This is not a heroine who makes TSTL decisions, but one who is using her brain to solve the mystery of who killed a close patient of hers and attempted to kill her as well. As always, it’s got some hot steamy goodness, some bloody gory violence, and great secondary characters. Rebecca Zanetti knows how to do novellas right. And just because this made me smile: “You’ve lost your mind,” she stuttered. “Yes. Yes, I have,” he said, his eyes wild. “One week of being mated to you and I’ve lost any semblance of sanity I ever had. Listen here, woman. I’m wild. I’m the crazy one. You will not turn me in to the voice of reason. I won’t allow it.” Dual POV Some OW drama although he has no feelings for her No apparent triggers – well, except for blood and gore if that’s not your thing

This is a novella. I enjoy the protector series. I personally could have used more plot and less sex.
