“The King Slayer” is an excellent follow-up to “The Witch Hunter.” For those who read the first of the duology, you will be happy to know that all of your favorite (and not-so-favorite) characters are back, most of them with much bigger parts in the story. I’m almost afraid to write anything in this review for fear of spoiling someone. I can say that it is as good as, if not better, than the first. The world is still one of the most well-built I have ever read. There is something that some may find controversial, but given the historical context, it’s really the only way it could play out realistically. Oh, and please Virginia Boecker, give us a book about Schuyler. There seems like so much to tell, and I don’t want to see him go. Highly recommended to anyone who loved the first. I absolutely loved this book. I read it in less than a day. I received it an arc of the book a couple of months ago and I just got around to reading it! IM SO SORRY!! I usually find that I'm not the biggest fan of books set in a different era. Either the words don't flow or the story has many limitations because of the century (i.e women have no rights, or it always takes 30 pages to travel somewhere). I did not feel that with The Witch Hunter or The King Slayer. Nothing was missing, and I wasn't wishing for the plot to speed up. Read the rest of the review on https://kaitlingillespie.com

I think I struggled with this because I didn't do a reread and I couldn't remember a lot of the story from the first book. There are a lot of things happening in this book. I have enjoyed this cast of characters and seeing how it all played out was interesting. I also thought it was a trilogy, so as there was all sorts of epic build up, I kept expecting the next turn of the page to be the cliffhanger ending. There are some scenes where I was shocked into silence. Some serious swoons. And some new characters who had me evil cackling with glee. Overall, this has been an enjoyable journey and I look forward to seeing what else Virginia writes. **Huge thanks to Little Brown and NetGalley for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review**
