K. J. Waters hooked me with a fascinating premise, and I have to admit, for the most part, the story kept me turning the pages. This book is split between two characters: one who must cope with a hurricane in Florida and one who (because of immoral actions of her boyfriend and a scientific breakthrough of his colleague) is sent back to 1752 England. But is it really 1752 England? It's hard to say, because while the author did resolve the two main character's storylines by the end of the novel, several threads are left incomplete, several questions go unanswered. I realize this is part of a series, but answering a few more questions would have made the ending much more satisfying. The characters are well developed and not cliche. The pacing is consistent and doesn't drag. The plot is solid and compelling. The setting is complex and detailed. The historical detail seems quite accurate and the reader truly experiences the lives of the characters--in both timelines. Waters knows how to tell a story. Other than the abrupt, incomplete ending (which I believe is intentional to lead into book two), the only other problem was with editing. The book needs another pass to clean up the various punctuation and grammatical errors. But the problems in the novel aren't big enough to detract from the story. I'll be looking for book two because the tale is interesting and I want to revisit these characters and this world again.
"You can't put it down" kind of book! This book leaves you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. This story evokes the gamut of emotions!! What powerful and vivid writing abilities from K J Waters. Can't wait until Book 2 of this trilogy hits the bookshelves!!
