These poems veer from playful to cruel. Although the illustrations are classic Lobel and very fun, the poems feel not spooky-fun but spooky-mean. Reading these to children is not something I plan to do.

The TrollBe wary of the loathsome trollthat slyly lies in waitto drag you to his dingy holeand put you on his plate. He¿ll catch your arms and clutch your legsand grind you to a pulp, then swallow you like scrambled eggs¿gobble! gobble! gulp!Oh, doesn't that just make you shiver? I did a booktalk on this book, and the companion book, "The Headless Horseman Rides Again," and I used the term "Lethal Rhyme" as a description for the poems. Absolutely frightening, and thoroughly enjoyable.

A collection of creepy, crawly poems that address many spooky situations. The classic black and white, sketchy drawing adds to the spookiness.
