As I read the reviews it makes me quite sad, this was an excellent book in my opintion- I am a huge fan of her writing and as it is listed this is not her usual style. This is her 1st stab at fiction and I believe she knocked it out of the park. Love Lies beneath mostly deals with how you interpret the truth and if your willing to ask for the truth. Highly satisfied with it, only downside is that the book I purchased was missing pages 215-249. I returned it and re-ordered it with no issue.

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings Before I dive into my review, I want to give a disclaimer. When I go into Ellen Hopkins books, I am excited to read outside the box and read a book made of poetry that is art and content and just awesome. I was sad when I opened this that there is minimal poetry sprinkled within the book. So warning. From the beginning of the book, the reader is swept into Tara's life. It is a little rough from the start but finally gets into a swing and you go from her being crazy and single to starting to get tied down. After an injury sidelines her and really brings her to her knees, she has to start relying on others and you really see her shift. I liked watching that change in the character. Cavin Lattimore the doctor that walks into her life after her injury was interesting, with the addition of his teenage son, the reader has to pick on each page who to trust and it bounces back and forth. There were times where I was excited that I had to decide who to trust and then there were moments where it got exhausting.

Tara lives in San Francisco and is a wealthy 40-year-old confident woman who has been married 3 times but has never been in love. While on vacation in Tahoe with her sister, Melody, she has a skiing accident and ends up in the hospital where she meets handsome Dr. Cavin Lattimore. They start going out, and everything seems to be going great until Tara meets Cavin’s son, Eli. The father-son relationship is very tense, and Eli makes unsettling declarations about Cavin. Meanwhile, Tara starts receiving threatening emails and notices strange cars seemingly keeping watch in front of her house. Because I am a fan of Ellen Hopkins’ young adult novels, I was disappointed that Love Lies Beneath was not written in verse like her previous novels. In fact, it’s her first fiction written in prose. There are a few poems scattered throughout the story though, giving rhythm to the book. In addition, some steamy scenes spice up the narrative. At its core though, Love Lies Beneath deals with trust issues and the perception of truth. Tara is a strong, independent woman who doesn’t shy away from taking risks. Abused as a child, she is not afraid of seeking revenge when someone wrongs her. However, she is not a very likable character, and I found that the story was slow going at times, especially at the beginning. Finally, the ending, though surprising, was not entirely satisfying. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the author is planning on writing a sequel that will be published in 2016… Love Lies Beneath was sent to me for free in exchange for an honest review. Another great book from Ellen Hopkins! It was amazing to read an actual novel from her. It took a little bit longer to read as well!
