There are a lot of ebook version of Hawthorne's works. I have read some where the conversion to e-format was terrible -- strange line breaks, indecipherable words because the scanner did not recognize the letters correctly and no one checked to make sure it was correct. This e-version was very good in that respect and contained no mis-translations that I could see. As to the book itself, you have to understand the writing of the period, which was a lot more long-winded than we tolerate in our books today. If you can accept the eccentricities of the period, it's a pretty good story.

I have to give this a 3 star because of Mr. Hawthorne's third person descriptions of the character's personalities and pasts. He droned on and on and at times repeated himself. I wish he had let the character's speak for themselves, they seemed to be interesting enough to tell their own stories.

A she-cat padded to the edge of the camp. She is black with a white spot on her front left paw. She is old enough to be a warrior and is feircely loyal. She can be sassy but is always very kind and gentle to the very end.
