Whether it's vinegar, olive oil, chocolate, or her latest, honey.Cal's Healing Powers books provide you with more than just home cures, health and beauty tips (including recipes from spa chefs!) She really digs deep; her in-depth research uncovers surprising detailed facts on history and origins, varieties and characteristics (as well as preferred uses for each), and ideas on how to incorporate an extraordinary pantry staple not only into everyday cooking, but ingenious uses around your home, as well. With the addition of her own personal anecdotes as well those from others she interviews from coast to coast and around the world, Cal delivers a most comprehensive and informative book that is not only fun to read, but one that you'll turn to time and time again.

Cal Orey uses her expertise and research to share her knowledge of the many different ways honey can be used to heal the mind, body and soul. She includes suggestions for everything from alleviating anxiety and stress to ancient beauty secrets for improving and protecting your skin. She also manages to weave a little humor along the way as she offers tips for kicking up your sex drive a notch! This book is a must have for eco-friendly ways to live a healthier life.

If you're anything like me, my knowledge of honey was limited to the ooze from Baklava, a drizzle in your teacup to sweeten up your day, and the age-old "prescription" mixed with lemon to soothe a sore throat and nagging cough. WOW! Have I ever been missing out! Cal Orey has explored every facet of the luscious nectar, from bee to baked goodies to medicinal properties and beyond. I'm betting your mouth will water like mine has, over the wonderful variety of recipes she has included and be amazed by the world of interesting and useful information she has tucked in between the covers. I have also teared up and chuckled over the personal stories Ms. Orey has shared, especially about her 'Furry family". I discovered so many good ideas that I hadn't thought about prior to reading this book. For a couple of prime examples, I had always used maple syrup on my baked butternut squash-now I will try the honey and orange crème she has suggested, as well as being a little more creative with my plain yogurt by adding a mixture of chopped nuts with honey. We are blessed to have an apiary here in our little corner of Northeastern Pa., that is not too far away from our home. We'll be getting our quart jars filled with the golden goodness before this month has flitted by. Don't miss your opportunity to delve into the world of honey and explore the benefits it may hold for you. I learned so much and will keep referring to it in the months and years ahead. My only wish is that Ms.Orey will consider writing a volume on maple syrup. I'll keep my sticky fingers crossed! Nancy Narma

Cal Orey just keeps writing fabulous books for us to keep on our kitchen shelf. Not only is The Healing Powers of Honey a great follow up to her other healing books, The Healing Powers of Vinegar: A Complete Guide to Nature's Most Remarkable Remedy, The Healing Powers of Olive Oil: A Complete Guide To Nature's Liquid Gold, The Healing Powers of Chocolate, it's loaded with great info, health tips and terrific recipes you'll add to your list of frequently served dishes. I love the style of this book - lots of info mixed with tidbits about Cal's life and journeys in search of the perfect honey. Another wonderful book by Cal Orey -- don't miss it!

Bee healthy and have fun while you do it. After reading The Healing Powers of Honey by Cal Orey, I had to write a review. I like the easy style in which she writes. The book is full of side stories that help you understand what the bee does for us. Without the bee we wouldn't have fruits and vegetables. Therefore, the bee is very important to our livelihood. The honey has been around since the beginning of time. The Bible tells us how good it was in ancient times. Well, it hasn't changed. Everything was natural back then, and wasn't made with preservatives that we have today. If we cooked naturally, we'd all be healthier. My grand kids and I love to take a teaspoon of honey when we have the craving for something sweet. Well, I found out that taking a teaspoon of honey before you go to sleep at night helps us insomniacs. It also helps to lower blood pressure, and other diseases. This book will be treasured among all my other healing books by Cal Orey. I enjoy the easy reading and manner in which Cal Orey writes. She does her research. I also love new recipes, so now I have a plethora of them with honey. I don't cook with sugar; instead I use honey, which is much better for you and filled with antioxidants. Thank you for writing this unique bee-utiful book. I will also praise the little bees when they buzz around my plants. I know that my plants are happy, too. If you want to see a book trailer I made for her, go to YouTube and look under The Healing Powers of Honey by writingfriend. Yep, that's me. I had to make it after reading this health-fact book.

There are thousands of things to discover about the goodness of this gift of nature within Cal's honey book, where she leaves no hive undetected. While reading it, I stirred some fireweed honey in to a cup of hot jasmine tea, lingering for a moment within the steam of their coalesced fragrances to marvel at how the average worker honeybee makes only 1/12 teaspoon of honey in its LIFETIME! Not only that, but, in order to make a mere pound of honey, bees have to visit at least 2 million flowers! Talk about sweet indulgence! This is something I wouldn't have known had it not been for Cal's extensive research and it quite literally shocked me as if I had been stung by a bee. I realized at that very moment how much I had taken the magical ingredient of honey for granted and, at the same time gave me a new appreciation for the meaning of my first name, which happens to be 'bee.'

Overall it's a good book. Some of the weight loss tips and nutrition tips are a bit inaccurate. But Orey does well in describing many varieties and many ailments honey can cure(some of which are questionable). Her resources and the list of locations to order specific bee products from are very helpful. That saved me time from attempting to sort which out honey sites contained the more exquisite honeys.
