Qi Gong Mindfulness in Motion DVD by Lee Holden is a nice qigong session combining gentle movements with positive affirmations that makes for a pleasant 20 or 40 minute workout suitable for beginners to qigong and old-timers. I am a Tai Chi player and instructor and longtime karate practitioner, and truthfully I tend to get bored by qigong routines. I have learned several over the years, and have also watched numerous DVDs. This is the first qigong DVD that kept me engaged through several viewings of the workout. If I had one critique, it would be that the affirmations at times border on the Stuart Smalley side of positivity, but I also tend to be a jackass, so there's that. If you don't mind a Unity / New Age flavor to your qigong, or if in fact you are looking for that very thing, then this DVD is for you. I am always looking for drills and exercises to add to my own personal routine, as well as for teaching to my Tai Chi class, and I look forward to making some of these qigong movements part of my regular practice. Note: I received this DVD as a review copy in exchange for a review. However, I have purchased for my own benefit numerous YMAA books, videos and DVDs over the years, and have attended seminars with Dr. Yang and his students. I recommend YMAA products to friends and students, and use his materials as study guides for my classes. I first became aware of Dr. Yang in 1992 when I found a copy of his book, The Root of Chinese Qigong, and spent many hours discussing it with a fellow Tai Chi player. All of this is to say, I spend way too much time and money on martial arts videos and books and I have yet to be disappointed by a YMAA product.

Lee Holden comes through once again as he guides the viewer through numerous movements that, combined with the breath and visualization, lead the viewer/participant into an awareness of what can be done to deepen your ability to really connecting with the body and its energy. Mindfulness is a word used and sometimes overused in today's plethora of wisdom pedaling and seeking offerings, but this DVD is the real deal and can help everyone from the seasoned practitioner to the novice with establishing a deeper connection with the body, mind and spirit.
