After The Hunger Games ignited my desire for Dystopian novels, I was on the hunt for something to quench my thirst. Divergent was the answer! Author Veronica Roth does an amazing job of creating a world that is believable enough to engulf the reader. This was one of those books that had me up late, aching to know what happened next. The characters are flawed in all the right ways and really display certain aspects of our cultural and societal standings and viewpoints. The reader gets the chance to learn with the main character, Tris, which I find to be one of the strong points of this book. As Tris chooses her life's path, which is starkly different than what she was raised to become, she must evolve into her faction or risk being banished from society for life. Roth did a fantastic job of making it easy to relate to Tris and follow her on her journey as she learns life lessons. Some of these lessons are hard and it's a nice change of pace from the books that aren't willing to create characters and situations that mimic reality. But do not fear, for what would a great book be without a little romance? Tris finds herself falling for someone that is not altogether safe, making for an exciting twist to the already thrilling ride that is Divergent. This book was a thoughtful take on the Dystopian genre. I am impatiently awaiting the next book in the series, Insurgent!

If you like dystopian young adult books, you'll love Divergent. It stands up to Hunger Games and Legend. It has it's own flavor though. I Loved it!

A new author with a unique voice This book is a good read, particularly the way it is written. I found myself drawn to the author’s voice. The writing was finely done. It holds  a unique concept as well, with an interesting way of going about it. By the end of the book, you’re ready for the second, which is now convenient since it’s already out! However, as a fan of the first two books: I’d recommend stopping there, even though you’ll be so darn ready for the third. A lot of potential was in this series, but there wasn’t any payout. The author did lose her voice in the third installment:  you could tell by the way it took me days to want to read it, whereas the first two were consumed immediately.  Divergent: Gold. Insurgent: Good God, that’s good. Last one (can’t remember the title, actually): Not to be read again.

The new, emerging author, Veronica Roth, will have you on the edge of your seat from the first page. If you enjoy books with action, suspense, and a tad bit of romance, this is definitely the book for you.

This book is indeed just as good as the Hunger Games. I'm not normally a dystopian reader but I enjoyed this book very much and it has a very interesting storyline, especially concerning being "Divergent."

The characters and the story just drags me in. When they are sad, so am I. When there is loss, I feel it too. I can never read just one chapter. I just need to know what happens next. Book 2 took me only 5 days as I read it until I couldn't see anymore. Afraid to read the last book as the ending has been revealed to me already,

This book is amazing! The ideas of the book are genuis! It gives you unbelievable suprises every so often that you can`t take your mind off of. It definitley got me on my toes at ALL TIMES. This book gives you excitement, shivers , emotional, and brave being that you don`t see coming, it makes you feel like your ACTUALLY in the story! This book is a combination of a love story, heroic bravenest, and other things that can lead to spoilers. This book makes you wonder so much "whats going to happen next?' It`s a great adventure to witness, it`s no joke this is my favorite book ever read through out my life, and I hope you get to experience the unbelievable adventures written in Divergent.

The way the book was written as a love story which wasn't the ideal that I was getting from the info I was finding about it. but, over all it was a good story to take the time to enjoy.

An okay book. I received this book for Christmas and was eager to start reading, I had seen the movie trailer and wanted to read the book before the movie comes out in March. Since I am a huge fan of The Hunger Games trilogy I thought this book would be perfect for me since the books seemed so similar I was all prepared for this book to became the type of book that I would stay up late reading because I couldn't wait to find out what happened like I was while I was reading the Hunger Games. However, Divergent let me down a little. I found the first 17 chapters chapters boring, I was about to stop reading at chapter two but decided to finish the book before passing judgement. The book doesn't get interesting until chapter 20 and up and at least for me was very confusing in the beginning. I also found Beatrice A.KA Tris to be a character that was hard to relate to sometimes and like she was missing something. I know Divergent is supposed to be set in the future but it seemed be lacking some of the realistic elements and descriptive words the Hunger Games had that connect it to the present day and pull the reader in to the point where they don't want to stop reading. With The Hunger Games you feel like you're in the book experiencing the emotions and seeing the same things for the first along with the characters. With Divergent It feels like you are just reading a book. The plot could have been developed more and a pronunciation guide showing you how to pronounce the faction names in the book would have been helpful. One of the things I liked about the book was the relationship between Tris and Four and getting to learn about his past as well as the past of Beatrice's mother. All in all I liked this book but I still think the Hunger Games is far better. In my opinion it is a smart idea to borrow Divergent from the Library or a friend instead of spending money on it.

Another dystopic view of the world (like the Hunger Games series) but a new and interesting idea. Great read. Even though it was intended for young adults, adults will enjoy it. Read all three books in a couple of days because I couldn't put them down!

I read Divergent by Veronica Roth. I recommend this book! I loved this book!! The writing style was very enjoyable to read and flowed smoothly! I got lost in this book with the plot and characters. I love the relationship between Tris and Four; how she's trying to figure him out the whole time while knows his mission and intent even though timing is a question. Let me back up and tell the foundation of this novel and how it influenced me to think about myself. In Chigaco, the world as it is now does not exist but they have different groups called factions. The story centers around Beatrice who is 16 and lives in the faction of Abnegation. She and her brother are in the same year at school and are going to be tested in a simulation which faction they have tendencies for. Beatrice's test is inconclusive because it shows many factions... she is Divergent. This is a very dangerous word. She doesn't know why but people help her cover her results and she cannot tell anyone. Out of the factions she has a hard decision to make. Each faction has a set 'category' that it lives by and is set hard to those rules. Abnegation- made to live selfless, Amity- made to live peaceful, Candor- made to tell the truth, Dauntless- made to be strong and fight, Erudite- made to constantly learn new things. Beatrice chooses...Dauntless. She leaves her family and goes through initiation with Dauntless. This story is a rollercoaster of facing fears, being brave, being selfless and having mental preparedness. I thought of myself as if I had to choose... I would probably choose Amity, but not sure. I love how this author writes about Tris facing her fears and how she overcomes because all of us especially me can use this advice. This is an excellent novel and I cannot wait to read the next!

It's just a great story to read. I read this book over and over, I couldn't but this book down.

I love how the author was able to describe Tris's innocents to the new world she was tossed into, and was able to express Tris's emotion to how an ordinary sixteen year old would. Throughout the book, my heart was literally pounding the whole time in suspense (which doesn't happen often when I read books).

This book is absolutely amazing. I could NOT put it down and it left me anticipating Insurgent.
