This album, too often confused with their ''CSN'' boxed set and/or their debut album, is positively the best album the trio ever recorded. Whereas on their other albums one of the three is most prominent, on CSN all three members participate fully, which is more than can be said for their later ventures. The album starts with the epic ''Shadow Captain,'' which continues the mood of Crosby & Nash's ''Critical Mass'' at its most mystical. Crosby's ''In My Dreams'' is another strong point as well as ''See the Changes'' and ''Just a Song Before I Go,'' the group's most successful single ever. The album is a lot mellower and introspective than the first two, but this is actually a better setting for the harmonies than had been presented. Speaking of which, the harmonies are still perfect, even tighter than on pervious work. If only they would perform more from this album in concert... (Hint, hint, guys.) Get this album - no CS&N collection is complete without it!
