Pulitzer Prize winner Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) is renowned for her nuanced and sensitive depictions of rural Chinese life in the 1930s. As the daughter of Presbyterian missionaries based in China, Buck used her background growing up in China to write The Good Earth.
