Elizabeth George Speare (1908-1994) was an acclaimed author of historical books for children. One of only six authors to win two Newbery Medals, Speare is well-known for The Witch of Blackbird Pond and The Bronze Bow. She also received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for her contributions to children’s literature.
